short book, so no excuse not to read. While some of the dream he tells can drag on, the lessons learned are tremendous.

Entertaining story of a Dominican family living in the Bronx and how the four daughters deal with the influences of their adopted home and the traditions of their almost-forgotten home.

http://ismellsheep.blogspot.com/2011/... This story had a strong start with very solid writing. I really enjoyed Julian’s character, a smug, confident, demon…what isn’t there to like? ;) He also oozed sexuality like any good demon should, but I found the heroine, Serena, rather cliché. She was to much the blond haired wide-eyed naïve, pure of heart and spirit, virginal angel. There are some very sensual scenes where Julian tries to seduce Serena (he had my heart all a flutter), but when they finally had sex, it was erotic and seemed really out place in this story. I felt like this story would have been perfect as a novella that focused on just our forbidden lovers. Instead there is a very prominent secondary character, Nick, who seems like a real third wheel in the story. He wasn’t as fully developed as he should have been considering his role in the story. The story does have some good old nasty villains that are hell bent on revenge and betrayal. This book wasn’t my bottle of Pepsi. There are lots of people that loved it so I recommend you check out other reviews before making your decision. The story was a 2 1/2 Sheep read, but I am bumping it up to 3 Sheep cause Julian is hawt! ;)

I'm starting this book of short stories for the third time! I know they will be great, but my attention span is to short for short stories sometimes.

You know how you sometimes read a book and you find yourself pulling your hair because all you want to do is smash the characters' heads, but that would mean smashing your laptop, which you can't and won't do because you need to know what happens next? That pretty much sums up how I felt reading Mercenaries part 1. This Part picked up directly from the last scene in Special Forces. Mercenaries, for me, will be memorable for how Vadim's psyche was dissected. For those who said that Dan was somehow neglected and seemed one-dimensional, that held some truth. When he became Mad Dog, there's not much to read about Dan apart from his sexual conquests. We also learn more about Vadim's background, but Dan's remained quite elusive. To a point I was almost hating him for not wanting to give Vadim a break after what he's been through. In a way, his response is probably a coping mechanism. He didn't want to accept that such a terrible thing could happen to a person he loves, so he denied him that excuse because knowing that he suffered to that extent hurts him more. That was probably quite selfish (in a way, for both Vadim and Dan), but it's hard *not* to understand their actions. Dan remains this simple BAMF who wears his heart on his sleeves, whose loyalty was never ever questioned even if he was shagging others. As for Vadim, I really enjoyed his little "adventure". It was heart-breaking how he was almost stripped of his humanity and bit by bit became a man again. He hasn't come full circle yet, but the detail with which his mental condition was written was very satisfying. The part where he said he couldn't feel what he was reading almost killed me. Took a lot of courage and strength to do what he did. I also *really* enjoyed the details of his SAS selection trainings XD I read some accounts of BRC, and this reminded me of that and gave me more, especially the interrogations and SERE. Andy, cameo though he was, was a very light-hearted character, quite the adorable one. This is starting to sound like more of a self-discussion than a review so I'll stop here. I can't wait to start on the 2nd part of Mercs.

** spoiler alert ** Reread in August and September 2014: I have spent the last few weeks reading pieces of this book aloud to my two daughters. My seven-year-old loved it. My five-year-old was vocal about not wanting to listen to it, but once we began she would stay to hear the tale of Princess Amethyst Alexandra Augusta Araminta Adelaide Aurelia Anne of Phantasmorania. It is the story of the seventh princess in a family, all of which are beautiful and perfect and proper like all storybook princesses. Until at her christening a fairy godmother points her finger and declares "you shall be ordinary!" A gift she is certain will bring more happiness than all the other fairy gifts out together. I never tire of reading Princess Amy's story and her adventures that follow her father's decision to hire a dragon in order to trick a prince into marrying an ordinary princess. When we finished reding today I asked my seven-year-old what she thought the author wanted her readers to know. "That it's more fun to be yourself than to be like everybody else." Bingo. Thank you, M.M. Kaye. Read March 2009: I discovered this book in sixth grade and loved it. A month or so ago I found a copy in our local thrift store and couldn't put it in my cart fast enough. It's an easy, quick read and I love the main character, Amy. It's still one of my favorite books.

Easy to read poems convey the heart-rending message of war against slavery in Cuba in the late 1800's. One woman and her husband hide in the jungle nursing all who come to them regardless of which side they are fighting for.
