I absolutely loved this. Not usually a fan or reader of autobiographies, but took a chance. I read 3/4 of it in the first day, but had to pace myself after that to make it last longer. My only criticism is that it was over too soon. I hear he is writing another, I wait, with bated breath.

This book is short and very well written. The story is very strong, and could be easily reformatted to be a great movie script - and it has apparently, though the movie is horrible. The characters are well developed and some particularly interesting (I like M'Ling the most). The story brings up some interesting themes like motives behind religion, the difference between man and animal, human cruelty and human compassion. It is very dark.

This book really sucks you in and doesn't let you out until the last page. If you're someone who reads a lot of fiction late at night curled up in bed, you'll identify with the main character quite a bit as she takes you along on her journey to solve a mystery. The plot moves, the characters are refreshing, unpredictable and understandable. It's no high literary feat, but it is fun. Kind of like The Other Bolyen Girl only a mystery. The only detracting element for me was the sub-plot of the main character and her lingering childhood issues - they were distracting, silly and not entirely credible. This book didn't require the addition of a ghost from the past dressed as closure on childhood suffering to make it fun - it already was.

This is book is very good! At first i liked how the younger sister was sacrificing for her older sister. It showed how caring and helpful she was to the family and her sisters life. Then, as i read that she was "made" to donate blood and body parts for her sisters disease, i was surprised. What surprised and shocked me was that her mother would sometimes force her to give her the medical needs that her sister would have to get in order to survive. It was unfair! As the younger sister struggles with her health and finally decides to sue her parents for this. She gets a lawyer and plans out everything to stop her mom. It was so sad at the end of the story because, the older sister dies cause she had cancer. The older sister tells her younger sister that she will soon die and that she will always be in her heart and never forget her. I cried at the end. After i read the book

With the Halloween season being my favorite, the setting for this mystery was just perfect. In addition to the well done plot, Monica Ferris educates the reader in more than just needlework. I really enjoyed this one!

This was a fascinating book to read while our economic system is imploding. Interesting to get some historical perspective--many of the financial goings-on after the Revolutionary war reminded me of today! Greedy speculators, people manipulating the market, gaming the system... Loved the author's use of two points of view throughout the story. And a cracking good plot to boot.
