We have all heard how the writers get their inspiration of writing stories/novels from everyday happenings around them. Here the author has taken that too seriously. All the headline issues that you have read during past few years have been put together in this book. What goes to his credit is that he has found ways and means of linking them together. But following six separate but intertwined stories, happening simultaneously in locations from Andaman and Nicobar Islands to Kashmir, keeping a track of characters, becomes a bit tedious and it's not interesting enough to make you to turn back the pages to find the link. Makes a good reading during a flight or a train journey and not beyond that!

Yea, this I did not finish. Not really sure why I bought other than seeing it and remembering a recommendation from a chef at culinary school. I do not want to be a chef and have known this for awhile, the book was really just a list of all the reasons I already had for not wanting to be a chef. It also kind of makes those seeking careers in other culinary fields feel bad.

I didn't love Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers as much as some of the other Georgia books, but I think that's because it felt like a transition. Georgia is quite mixed up in her red bottomosity through the book, and it ends with a cliffhanger of sorts, so there wasn't much satisfaction as far as the story goes. It was, as always, laugh-out-loud funny at parts, and Georgia is the same old funny, lovable nutter. I just had a feeling of "AND THEN?" throughout the book.
I was simultaneously inspired by the sheer determination behind "Dr. Greg's" efforts, and amused by the fabulous portrait of bad organizational management. You can get a lot done on pure passion and personal charisma but if you don't invest in a bit of structure it will be unsustainable. A lot of luck behind Central Asia Insititute's current existence. Otherwise, I really enjoyed learning about northern Pakistan, and while I have mixed feelings about international development efforts, this work seems like the real deal. I am envious of his niche, working with people in the Himalaya - after just beginning to reacquaint myself with the Sierra Nevada I was drooling over the mountains. I probably couldn't do something that was that airline-intensive but I really appreciate how Mortensen's flexibility and inexperience left space for the Pashto villages to drive the process. A great read, written in a very journalistic style - I finished it in about a week because it was simple and engaging.

Pickett's Sideways is not as good as the masterpiece film that inspired it, but it's a nice, light, well-told yarn. This story of two best friends traveling in the California wine country before one of them is to get married has much of the dark humor of the film, but they story's not nearly as well-told. Still, this is an entertaining read for those looking to distract themselves. Fans of the film will be surprised by a completely different ending. An interesting note: before reading the book, I didn't know what the title referred to exactly. It's slang for "drunk," which is appropriate.
