I am NOT impressed with this guy at all. I won't go as far as to say he is a phoney, but I just don't get why he wrote this book. All he really does is talk about himself, himself, and more of himself. It's not at all what I had expected after hearing so much rave about this guy.

Good book. Interesting story line and I love the bee keeping quotes at the start of each chapter that tie in with the story.

from my blog"OH! this is the thing i really wanted to tell you about. i just finished reading this book, aaron renier’s spiral bound. i would like to recommend it to everyone, as, i imagine, would the author. it’s a deliciously drawn graphic novel with a fantastic group of characters, and an impeccable storyline. please, please, try to find a copy. especially if you like indie culture, or food, or children, or any combination of all of the above. or vegetables. no, not vegetables, anthropomorphized animals."

If you've ever been afraid of dying, this book will terrify you. You'll be washing your hands every time you turn the page -- and it's certainly a page-turner. This book details actual events surround Ebola virus outbreaks in Africa, Germany, and America (remember Ebola Reston, anyone?). Preston provides a detailed and horrific account of one of transmission of one of the world's deadliest viruses, and illustrates that it's not as easy to keep microscopic infectious agents (traveling in largely unknown vectors) from spreading as you would think. My new life goal is to avoid contracting Ebola.

** spoiler alert ** I am torn as to how to rate this book. It is clearly a YA book, some YA books can double as also an adult book, I would have to say this one is just YA. The first third of the book was crisp & held much promise, the second third started to lose that crispness and i found myself scanning the pages... The final third of the book had some of that crispness back & the concepts were there that had a different edge. It did resemble Twilight in many ways... which is to me was NOT a good thing... but i wanted to give this authour/book a good shot. I thought many of the concepts were good, the auras chakras, reincarnation ideas etc, gave it a different flavor than Twilight but I still couldn't shake that whiney feel that Bella brought to twilight, Ever had a small twang of the same whinyness, which i did not like. I also didnt care for many of the messages in the book, skipping classes to hang out with Damen, the vodka, the total ditching of her common sense all for a guy...Meh I didnt like that, I mean i know it is a book... but young girls read this stuff & think that it is normal to just throw their needs to the wind to go chase a cutie..? i wasn't really okay with that. In this day & age you need to be smarter than that.. to me it made Ever appear dumber than she really should be. She needs to be smarter than than to be likable...it took away from her likableness... is that a word ? It is now. Lol Ever is no where NEAR as whiney as Bella in Twighlight but she still could hvae had a backbone... i do give her credit for at least doubting her messed up decisions but i wasnt really all that head over heals over her character. Even though she is troubled, she could still be a strong character. Damen, was interesting at first but then his "mystery" persona stated to wear off and just got old really fast, it wasn't until towards the end of the book that i regained interest. So i felt that could have gone smoother if his character would have revealed some things sooner rather than later. Honestly the concepts have GREAT promise, but if i didn't already HAVE the second book i can say i would stop here at book number one. Since I already have book two I will probably read it, but I am not expecting too much from it. This book was okay... not a keeper for me & i will most likely put it up for swap/trade. I think the author has great potential just needs a bit of polish. I didn't hate it, I just didn't love it either. I can see how twighlight fans could go either way, love/hate it. If you liked Twilight you might like this one.

A much more mature piece by Camus in comparison to "The Stranger," which most people associate with the author and had made me personally skeptical of reading anything else by him. Anyway, the book was beautiful and it raised great questions about how man can rise above human suffering and indifference in times were it it seems all too unbearable and overwhelming.

Another book that seemed tempting based on description and it's just a by the numbers mystery set in "Berlin 1920's", but it could be set anywhere, anytime in the modern world that has police, detectives and such; flat prose, colorless descriptions. The blurb compares it to Alan Furst books and that attracted my attention - well, I guess both authors write in English, but I think that otherwise there is a sea of difference between a talent like Mr. Furst and a probably average mystery writer - cannot truly say since I rarely read mysteries as such - as the author of this one
