One of the best collections of stories for children that I have ever read.

If you want to study Jung, I highly recommend this book. It's written by a biographer (not a Jungian) so it's accessible to any reader. I also found it an aid to helping me understand Jung's own writing since it contextualizes and grounds him in world history.

Easy read, fun and unpredictable. I'm looking forward to reading the others.

The first in the Dresden Files tells the real story very unlike the TV series. The books (I am on to number 2) are much better and provide a darker more gritty version of the story.

This book skillfully creates an air of ambiguity. It's very straight forward, with illustrations from the author and everything, but there is a certain dreamlike quality to it that makes is stick with you every step of the way.

All I can say is that I'm so glad this is over. Every aspect was just disappointing and didn't offer much to the reader (except for making insomnia even more intolerable).

My book club selected this book after several recommendations from friends. I was, however, a little disappointed. While the story was interesting, the entire book was poorly paced. It jumped from long sections to letters to drawn out explanations of medieval history to long stories of the past. Also, I thought that the ending was pretty anticlimatic. I won't spoil it, but I expected a bit more after a 600-page build up.

This is the second in the Soho series (chronologically) and picks up seven years after Trouble in Paradise with the focus centered on Rosa, the baby Zelda foresaw as coming into Bert and Maggie's life. While Tarts doesn't have that intense pull that Paradise did, I still couldn't put it down for all the drama that rose up around our Rosa. Charlie Fluck is back and he's the main source of the threats against her as well as one of the methods by which we learn of Cassandra's background. I can see this background and the corporate control it teeters over continuing onto a third novel...please??!?!!! I suspect most parents would find Rosa's childhood absolutely appalling and, I cannot disagree that Rosa learns a lot about the seamy side of life that I would prefer children never learn but she is being raised with such an incredible amount of love by a huge circle of friends that I can only wish that more kids had her opportunities. She is loved. She is cared for. She is protected by a neighborhood. Kids today should be so lucky.

A big fan of Graham Greene since I read Brighton rock as a teenager, I am also fascinated by the Orient Express train journey which takes 3 days across Europe. Passengers are just embarking after a bad channel ferry crossing from England. So far the prose is wonderfully concise but also film like in the vivid pictures it paints. Wonderful story about the journey & passengers but strong undertones of the dark side of unadventurous life - poverty, crime, murder, financial failure, revolution & anti-semitism. All this in a short readable book that seems like it would make a wonderful movie (although the 2 versions of it so far were big flops). what I like about Greene is that he writes good stories, full of suspense, adventure etc, very concisely with no wasted words & conveys a whole universe of fear & despair, all in a very entertaining way. This is a book for grown-ups who appreciate good writing.
