I find it really difficult to write a review about this book, frankly, I am somewhat disappointed, not because of the book itself, which was beautifully written, but rather because of me having such great expectations from all the high praises given to Forman's work. Or it might be just me being too used to adrenaline-pumping adventures. Ignoring my whining, there was so much to like about "If I stay", my personal favorite is the ingenuity of the characters and situation. No stereotypical drama queen, cheesy high school relation ship, or world-endangering situation, the weight of Mia's choice and the emotions she bears feels really real. It haunts me with the thought that if one day I had to decide, what would I chose? Another aspect I really enjoy is music, it was the very thread that connect all characters throughout the whole story, even influences people. Despite my strictly amateurish musical knowledge and the piano skill of an 8 year old, I was deeply moved by music in "If I stay", it reminds me a lot of the movie August Rush. In conclusion, "If I stay" is a compelling setory of love, loss and the fragility of life which I gladly recommend to everyone, especially musician.

My aunt (or was it my cousin?) gave this to me for Christmas many years ago. I loved it to pieces (not literally, thankfully) and still do. But no matter how hard I wrack my brain, I can't remember ever actually making anything from it, though I read the recipes religiously and was always out in the backyard concocting something out of mud. Here's what I do remember doing with it, though: for three consecutive summers, my brother and I opened up a restaurant in my bedroom. Complete with handwritten menus, tables (AKA stools tastefully draped in bandanas) and chinaware (or various plastic doll plates). The dishes and beverages our menu featured were solely from this book. The game would last days at a time and in the end I'd tot up our "profits" and spilt them two ways. It was one of the most fun and memorable games we played, and is still talked about fondly by both of us. So, though I've never made these recipes in actuality, my brother (who was the chef) has "cooked" them countless times, not to mention the fact that I've taken orders for and served them to numerous hungry, invisible customers.

Loved the story of the model warfare and the one about the road trip with the pecan log and the cat. So glad I only have one boy, but as I watched my husband read this, I could totally picture him and his two brothers getting up to some of the stunts in this book. In fact, he could add several chapters of his own! What is it about boys? Hilarious reading.
