Just finished rereading this book, and found it to be as enjoyable as ever. My favorite Amy Tan is still The Kitchen God's Wife, though; the audiobook version read by the author is amazing, and probably responsible for the beginnings of my ventures into Sinophilia. Joy Luck Club feels somewhat less polished and, of course, jumps around rather a lot more, but the stories are compelling. Being a historical fiction buff, I am always more interested in Tan's mothers than daughters, and that holds true for Joy Luck Club as well.

Moody and dark with many odd twists and turns. This one makes a fine companion piece to her Half Broken Things.

Such a great story. Opened your eyes to way things were and maybe still are to some degree in the South. Would read it again.

I really really enjoyed reading this book and am very thankful to the bookcrosser who sent it to me. It was on my wish list. From the start it captivated me. I loved the father in this book and some of the things he said really made me think or laugh ;) The only thing I knew about this book before reading that it was a post apocalypse book but that was all so it was really an adventure to read and find out what was happening. This author managed to captivate me from the beginning to the end. I thought she did a good job writing how people would cope with losing all the stuff they used to think were normal like electricity, music, light buttons. The way they had to change and take care of themselves. How they started to love and hate each other and very interesting to see how they learned which things were important. I recommend this book and give it 4.5 stars.

I actually really liked this one. It has a lot of the Oriental appeal, I think, with the desert spies, the oblivious archaeologist, the cloak-and-dagger operations. Reminded me some of Elizabeth Peters, especially the character of Sethos.

A wonderful introduction - if only it were more comprehensive!

When Goldwater wrote this in 1960, it was the first articulation of the modern conservative platform. Goldwater makes the case that, unlike the left which measures man in only economic terms, the right includes consideration of man's spiritual needs, of which the desire to be free is paramount. In short, he advocates a strict constructionist view of the Constitution, local control, and the empowerment of individual rather than the collective. What will strike readers as they read this book is that there is no mention of social issues, demonstrating that conservatism was primarily concerned with man's economic and individual liberty rather than attempt to create a moral social order. Conservatives looking to develop a winning strategy would be wise to reread this book. Additionally, Goldwater's chapter for combating communism could easily apply to winning the war on terrorism, something the Obama administration ought to read up on.

Komik ve gerçek. Diğer kurgusal olmayan metinlerin Senato muhalifi gibi görünmesini sağlar.
