I absolutely LOVE the Night Huntress series, this book however, didn't really meet my expectations so much as the last few. I believe the book had a great plot, Cat and Bones must stop a ghost that every Hallow's Eve takes corporeal form to burn three women he claims to be witches with the help of an accomplice, however, I believe the book could have gone slightly more in depth. (view spoiler) I guess I was disappointed because I was expecting slightly more with the ending. Despite it, I enjoy Cat and Bones and the whole entourage of characters both old and new.

É muito difícil deixar que algo, para o qual partimos com expectativas muito altas, ainda assim as supere. Apesar de em todo o lado ler excelentes críticas a este livro não me iludi, pois já tantas vezes saí desapontada de situações semelhantes. Com tantas precauções e ainda assim me enganei. As personagens e os lugares lêem-se reais e estão aqui ao nosso lado quando nos embrenhamos na história, ou nas histórias, porque afinal cada vida tem a sua e o autor descreve-as com uma mestria invejável. Pouco depois de começar e ainda antes de terminar percebi que este foi um dos melhores livros que li nos últimos tempos.

I've never read a book by this author before. It is a very easy read. A book you can get into the characters and want to see what happens with them...with a touch of magic. I was a little disappointed in the ending...it wrapped up everything that was happening but would love to see a 2nd book that shows what direction all the characters went. Overall really enjoyed the book.

To explain my 3-star review: this book is, for the most part, pretty damned great. However, it starts to drag after a while and then weird factual errors pop up, and the ending of the book is just awful. I still think it's worth a read for the concepts alone, but prepare for bitter disappointment before it's all over.

I picked this up in high school, trying to impress myself with how learned I could be. I really wasn't prepared for how much I enjoyed this book. I didn't think I was going to read more than a bit of it. Instead, I read it cover to cover and did it in less than two weeks. Which for a book about revolutionary war history is pretty unusual for me. This book deserves all the awards it got. It's impressively researched, fascinating, shows sides to these men that I never would have learned about otherwise. It read like a novel to me. Except it's true. Which is SO MUCH BETTER. If you have any interest at all in the time period or history in general, read it! I promise you won't be disappointed!

I love this book! KiKi is one of the great menopausal characters of all time with her laser vision and matriarchal savvy. Howard is a loser stuck in the Academy and every turn that he makes is pathetic. I rate this social satire as one of the great ones along with Madame Bovary, Gulliver's Travels and The Great Gatsby. Not to mention, On Beauty takes us to the next step of women's liberation after Howard's End because the bequeathed has the good fortune of being philanthropic rather than always having to consider primary needs like shelter to make it through the day. KiKi has choices and her daughter sheds a keen light on the capabilities of the next generation.
