I've been a fan of Nelson George since I was in college and he was a music critic for the Village Voice chronicling hip-hop as a viable art form. In fact, he was my first adult "celebrity crush" (I like 'em cerebral) and I even got to hang out with him at a basketball game (I always meet my crushes eventually - and then I don't care anymore! :) Because of his close proximity to a lot of the creators and tastemakers of that time he was able to cast an educated, critical eye on what others saw as a passing phase. This memoir is great insight into how he became the acclaimed music critic, novelist, essayist, and filmmaker that he is today.

I loved this book! What an eye-opening experience! Candace Pert, PhD discovered the opiate receptor back in the 70's. Her discovery led to the making of SSRI drugs and all kinds of mood-altering substances that she warms against. Her book describes how your body is your subconscious mind, your health is a product of how you think about yourself. Taking many of the drugs on the market today alter the bodies chemistry, but that in a way that can be sustained. Pert give advice on how to actually change your molecular functioning so that pharmaceuticals are no longer needed. Pert gives a scientific explanation of the biomolecular basis of for our emotions and also the everyday ways that one can promote health in themselves. The book is an inspiration for exploring the body-mind connection and empowering one in their quest for health and happiness.

It was ok. I skimmed a lot of it. There are a bunch of characters, and I couldn't keep track of connections and such.
I was really dissappointed in this book. I went into it with high expectations because of all the hype. I didn't like it at all.

there isn't a lot of actual color in this book. maybe the newer editions have more. sort of like a 1st gen iPod and a video iPod. or maybe an iPod Mini and a video iPod is a better comparison. i am huge nerd for color theory.
Read it quite a while ago but I remember i found it really disturbing and kinda psychedelic. Based on his wife I think...at least the depression etc.

Been cutting back our meat intake and a friend loaned me this book. She says it is "controversial" - a bit radical even. Can it convince me to cut back on our dairy too? We will see.

Science fiction that makes my brain hurt. David Weber approaches this novel with a knowledge of historical naval technology and tactics, extrapolating spaceships and battles that are extremely believable to the reader

I worked at a winery so I purchased this book out of curiosity, and I found it to be an easy and enjoyable read! I would recommend this book to anyone working in viticulture, studying botany/horticulture, or curious enough to learn a little bit about the biology of the grapevine.

I can only assume Ira Levin really hated visiting friends in the suburbs.
