My mom also gave Barnyard Banter to Emmy as a gift. She LOVES this books, and requests it frequently. Barnyard animals along with the noises they make are featured in this book, and throughout the book is Goose, chasing a butterfly. The "pulp paintings" make this book so interesting visually, as well. Better than your typical "farm book!" Another great find for a good toddler read.

** spoiler alert ** I'm on page 118 and I started to read it this morning. Really good so far but the story hasn't progressed very much at this point. Okay I just finished this book about a half hour ago. It really took a deep turn. I loved it just like all the ohters and I can't wait for the next one to come out. The last line of the book was "I'm pregnant" and my money is that she's going to have a Tabby. Just one more pawn in the upcoming battle/war.

Fascinating first book in a series. Lake has created an interesting YA fantasy with a Medieval feel and tone and budding friendship between the two central characters (Elspeth and Edmund) who must rise to the challenge after finding themselves in the middle of an epic battle of good versus evil. This book has plenty of action and interesting twists but it certainly leaves you wanting to read the next book as fast as possible.

Not really what I was expecting, I found this somewhat self-indulgent and not really that brilliant - I did skim some chunks, esp the LONG letter from his friend Chris. I am slightly suspicious of people who spend their time trying to figure out the meaning of life and their place in it - rather egotistical in my opinion, and really a waste of time as I'm sure the universe will continue on it's way regardless of our thoughts on it (though of course I could be wrong ... I'm sure Tim Allen wouldn't agree!). I guess if you're interested in quantum physics and existentialism you might enjoy this ...

Atonement is very inventive, clever, and original, but I didn't really enjoy reading it. I think Ian McEwan is brilliant but the book depressed me and I prefer books that are a little "lighter" and not so gloomy.

If you are looking for interesting characters to ponder, this is a good book. There is a lot of depth to consider, "why people are the way they are." And what happens when you throw the evangelical church in the mix. In Harlem and the South. In the early 20th century. It made me wonder how much these churches have changed in dynamic since then because it reflected what I've seen before (this church = more wild). A lot goes on. I enjoyed the writing itself, also.
