I actually listened to the audio book for this and it was a very quick listen. I was entertained, but the content isn't really much to sneeze at. Some of the stories are pretty good, but most of them are no brainers. If you need a little kick in the rear to tidy up your love life, then this book might give you that little jolt you need.

I love this book! It is too long for me to ever read again - but I loved reading this beautifully written book on an extended family in India. I was sad when it ended because the characters were like my family! This book explores so many dimensions of an Indian family -and illustrates India's diversity - religious, political, social, economical - and Vikram Seth's diversity as a writer. Personally - I would have married the poet.

This is the book that made me like Steinbeck. I read it for a history class while we were talking about the 30s, and I found it enormously illuminating.

I never finished this book because it scared me too much. I am absolutely worthless around horror stories.

I think it's extremely interesting that a Norwegian man and a woman from Louisiana could have so much in common as far as societal observation goes. Because, seriously, I just read "The Awakening" and...yeah. As far as that goes, though, I think I prefer Hedda Gabler. I just like Ibsen's writing better, I think (and I read two translations at once, which was a REAL trip.) Also, Ibsen's characters were kind of hilarious. I'm not saying that I didn't poke fun at everyone in "The Awakening" (because I totally did) but I didn't even have to go out of my way to make fun of the characters in "Hedda Gabler." But, yeah. All of the characters kind of annoyed me in this one, too. I didn't like anyone (which pains me. I need to latch onto SOMEONE, dammit) but at least the plot was fairly interesting. Maybe it's because I've read too many books and plays, but a lot of it seemed pretty obvious as far as what was going to happen. =/ So, yeah. I liked the plot. I liked the writing. I didn't like the characters .... but I think that was the point. So, 3.0 Stars

Hilarity will ensue.
What kind of hug do you like... a growing tall hug, a wiggle hug, or maybe a honey hug? Good for beginner readers
