Bowker takes all the elements of High Fidelity, misplaced modern male obsessed with collecting and out of touch with traditional masculitiny, and adds a touch of crime. The book is amusing and would probably be a good cure for nothing on television for an evening. It's a quick read.

After finishing Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden trilogy, I am very hesitant to read anything else she writes. Wither started this series off with a bang, Sever was okay, and Fever was entirely subpar. Courageous and compassionate...I found the writing lyrical--sometimes halting, often harrowing, and always haunting. Not an easy read or subject, but incest is an unfortunate fact of life; anyone who can survive and give voice to their experience with the measure of honesty and skill Sue William Silverman has in this book garners my sincere admiration, and my belief is that more open discussion of this subject in our culture can only have a positive effect, however uncomfortable it may be at times. Silverman came from a wealthy background where her basic needs were more than met, and perhaps that is why she was able to be present for her parents at the end of their lives, but I can assume with some certainty that every moment she was present for them exacted its own toll on her--whether the choice as right or wrong, it was HERS and seemed to aid her in her own healing. One of the book's strengths, in my opinion, is the way that it shows just how twisted a crime incest is...not only the crime itself, but how deeply it twists its victims and survivors and their lives. Her insight into her parents' experiences also illustrates that incest does not happen in a vacuum.

This is an insanely well-researched book about "The Armory Show" which is one of the most important art exhibitions ever put on, and easily the most influential art exhibition in the United States. In 1913, the Armory Show introduced the majority of the U.S. to modern art, including the Post-Impressionists like Cezanne, Van Gogh, and Gauguin, the Fauvists, including Matisse, the cubists including Picasso, and countless other now-famous artists. This book documents, in detail, the creation and effects of the show. It's complete, with a full list of every art work included in the show, a close inspection of the various inter-group struggles, and the reactions by American artists, the press, and the public. If you're interested in The Armory Show, this book is for you. It's well-written, fascinating, and throws you into the time period, which is still pretty similar.
