What a great book. It has humor and common sense that you don't see with many doctors. It is a must read. Each chapter is centered around a particular patient and is both funny and poignant. I found myself laughing throughout the book. Description: Written with great humor, wisdom, common sense, and compassion, It's Probably Nothing is a uniquely American memoir by a very insightful American individualist. I loved it."Duct Tape. This new collection sees Conger and his wife yearning for new challenges and relocating to the suburbs of Philadelphia after 25 years in mythical Dumster, Vermont. Conger gamely takes a job in a teaching hospital in the poorest part of the city and gets to experience urban bureaucratized medicine and its trials—a far cry from the more idiosyncratic and hands-on version he practiced in Vermont. After 5 years Conger and his wife move back to Dumster, where he rediscovers more about his patients' capacity to both cope and cherish one another than he expected.

Presents a compelling argument that Bill Ayers had a very large role in the creation of "Dreams of My Father."

This was an alright book, I think I was expecting more from it though. The title "Max" seemed to be a bad idea, I would have much rather it kept its original title, "Water Wings". It's more significant and relevant to the actual story rather than just "Max". There's probably going to be a 6th book, it certainly didn't end like it was over.

As much as I hate to admit it, this book made me feel for the characters enough to move me to tears. I suggest this book to anyone who wants a good tear jerker. Totally a guilty pleasure

The drink recipes are cool. I didn't think the writing in between added much.

I could not put this book down. I liked it better than the Davinci Code. It's very dark and mysterious. The information he presents is very believable.

Absolutely amazing. I loved the movie despite its flaws and the original play is just 1000X better. These are the boys I wanted to know in high school. They're pretentious (of course) but have enough intelligence and wit to back it up. I just have so much love and empathy for Scripps with his constant journal-writing and not just doing. I love his insights into the Dakin/Irwin fiasco. Scripps is the perfect commentator on his friend's various activities, while letting us know that he's too scared to partake in any of them himself. Then we have Posner, poor Posner, my heart just aches for him. Unrequited love sucks, that's no big discovery here, but Bennett really captures the infatuations and lusts of a certain period in everyone's life, how you get so caught up in a person that you don't realize you are behaving like a fool. Then there's Lockwood and Timms being a comedy dream team, Rudge being way too perceptive for his own good, and Dakin being annoyingly Dakin, always looking to be the one in the spotlight.

Fright Time was a juvenile horrors series like many others, except that each book contained three different stories by three different authors and, generally, (based on foggy memories and some preview-reads on Amazon (they've been reprinted!)) of higher quality writing, for juvenile horror series anyway. It makes a terrible kind of sense that Rochelle Larkin, a woman who edited many of the Great Illustrated Classics (those books were everywhere weren't they? And no damn good) was also responsible for these. Loved these books growing up, loved. I had the oddest chain-of-thoughts that led me to thinking about these books for the first time in likely ten years. I'll spare you the thought-chain just as I'll spare you the intricate 'crazy weird' dream I had last night. What was it about the 90s that inspired youth-oriented horror series? There of course had been for years authors who wrote supernatural novels for kids, from the gothic fare of John Bellairs to the facing-the-supernatural-as-metaphor-for-adolescence works of Zilpha Keatley Snyder. And of course you can go further back, but there was something in the water in the early 90s that sparked a huge horror boom in children's writing, the revival of Tales From the Crypt in reprints and on TV? I found a neat article last night from ThoughtCatalog.com that makes some good points about the success of Don Bluth, Jim Henson and other movies (Gremlins anyone?) that had horrific elements but were still 'kid-friendly'. The author also brings up Are You Afraid of the Dark, a series once the height of creepy, now ridiculous. It's interesting the series started airing in '91, right before all those books started coming out. There were so many. Goosebumps, Spinetinglers, and Spooksville come first to my mind. But R.L. Stine was king, with at least three other sprawling kid and young adult franchises to his name. To give an idea of his influence, when Goosebumps fell out of popularity in the late 90s along with (to be fair) some other financial shenanigans Scholastic Books' stock dropped over 50% in early 1997. Did I say that I loved these? I only had five of the 18 produced, but they were a lot of fun and if I see any at yard sales I'll probably pick them up. I had a shorty review of this posted last night but it didn't seem like enough. I wanted to justify my rooting around online for unspeakable amounts of time seeking these out with more than a few lines.

This is a heady book, but if you're ready to think hard, complex mathematical concepts will be revealed to you, wrapped in a story split between modern day and World War II. Math and cryptography have never been so cool or well explained.
