I was disappointed by this, having loved some other books by her. It seemed a strange mix of fantasy/whimsy and dystopia, and they didn't work well together in my opinion. No character other than Honor is really brought much alive, and even in her case, it wasn't a very deep portrait. It just trotted out some of the usual coming-of-age tropes: conflict with parents, desire to fit in, coming to terms with unpredictability and danger in the world. Also, not much story until just before the end.

It is 1946 in post-war London. Juliet Ashton is an author tired of writing about the same war stories and is looking for a fresh idea for her next work. She receives a letter from Dawsey Adams a resident on the island of Guernsey who found her name on the fly leaf of a book by Charles Lamb that she had once owned. This starts a series of letters between her and Dawsey who is a member of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and the other members of the society. The entertaining and often funny letters about life on Guernsey and events during the German occupation of the island as told to her by members of the society form the basis of this delightful book. My only criticiscm is that it was such a quick read.....I wanted more.

Not the same impact as Touching Spirit Bear. But I think the author felt he had to write another story to complete the Circle.

So far this book is amazing. It's like a personal encyclopedia, full of subjects and people that he thinks are relevant. I'd love to write a book like this.

This book received a lot of publicity when it came out because its indictment of the Bush Administration and, in particular, of Donald Rumsfeld, fit the preconceived notions of a liberal press establishment. But in this case that bias is irrelevant. We can see for ourselves the degree of hubris and incompetence demonstrated by the Bush team. Woodward's basic thesis has since been confirmed by a book by an Iraqi politician. BUT, I give it only two stars because it's the dullest book I ever read, with page after page of reconstructed conversations

If you like John Stossel, this book is for you. Pretty interesting stuff about how things really are different than we think and get told in the media.

This is a weird story and a lot of people would probably not get it. Not for those that would be offended by obscenties and some sexual content as well, but it did have it's moments and a couple of places where I laughed right out loud. Wish his show was on earlier than it is....:)

I took me a while to get into this one but i really did enjoy it. I thought about it a lot after i finished it. I think that is always a good sign.
