If you like "earthy" southern books you may like Joe, or anything by Larry Brown. If you like vivid living characters, you will probably like Joe. If you like powerful minimalist writing, you will probably like Joe. You get the point! I am both a writer and a reader. Larry Brown is, for me, among the top 5 most important writers of the 20th century -- along with Raymond Carver, John Steinbeck and Ernest Hemingway. Oddly, I made my book club read Joe and most of them did not like it -- so this kind of book is not for everyone.

Some frustrating moments, but a lot of lingering questions answered and a good ending! P.S. I am convinced that Luce is an angel; who's with me? Can't wait for Rapture to come out, sad that the series is coming to an end but so excited to see how they end it, until then I'll just have to be content with reading Fallen in Love; I think one of the best things that authors can dow itha series is give us novellas with backstories of characters or give us "extra" books that give more insight into the characters that we're reading about!

I enjoyed this book. It was a little hard to get into, but within a few chapters I found myself relating to Nancy's insecurities and cheering for her to find happiness... her thoughtfulness and self-deprecating style make it easy. I expected more outlandish, "that's Hollywood for you!" stories, and was pleased to find that that's not the case - it's not about name dropping, but a classic journey to self-discovery.

very good book and is based on a true story, its about a girl who soon becomes blind, death and dumb (cant speak) she also has to have her feet flattened at one point but it doesnt matter as soon enough she cant walk anyway, she gets pain everywhere and has regular tumors, buut all in all, its a very good book and can make somebody cry

July 21: I was wandering through the claustrophobic aisles of Capitol Hill Books (D.C.) today and this book practically jumped out at me within seconds. It's been on my to-read list since I signed up at goodreads.com. I figured it was a sign that I had to buy it (used) because to find it in that bookstore was a miracle... July 31: Finished! It's a fun book about comparing American and British cultures. I found myself reading excerpts aloud to Loz. I can't wait to see the town...
