It's Vonnegut, can't go wrong. I love his perspective on things so much. The way he combines the most simple language to make such thought-provoking statements about life astounds me. I adore it. I reread this pretty recently and it's still a favorite.

This is a Newbury selection. I liked it. I think that this would be an excellent selection for adventurous young boys. I can see my nephew, Tyler, reading this book with wide anticipation. I also liked that the boy in the story learned so much from reading books at the library--it makes smart boys even smarter--can't get enough of those references. I'm going to have Jeff read this to Jack when he gets a little bit older. Pretty sure that he still feels like he could "run away from home."

I read this book after having seen the Sean Connery film of the same name which, I have to say, is right up there in my list of favourites. I can never decide whether it is best to have senn the film first, read the book first or whether it matters. In this case it didn't really matter to my enjoyment. The film is a pretty good representation of the book and knowing the story didn't spoil it. It's not the easiest of reads - I wonder if this is related to the translation. I found it took me a while to get used to the prose and pace but once I did the story is engaging and gripping. I generally enjoy novels of a historical nature and though I am not a history buff I do like it when the authors have clearly done their research and there is plenty of historical accuracy - such that there can be. I think Eco does know about this period and the setting and the novel is all the better for that.

This book is one in the My Story series. The books in this series are fictional diaries of young girls living during different events in world history. Thirteen-year-old Alice Paynton lives in the busy and crowded city of London in 1665. She lives with her father and his sister, her Aunt Nell, who has raised Alice since her mother died giving birth to her. Alice begins her diary writing of happy events, such as seeing plays at the theater. However, a dark shadow begins to fall over London as the bubonic plague spreads. Alice writes of her family's desperate struggle to survive as the disease takes over the city. This was an excellent book about a young girl's experiences during a horrifying period in history. I have not read many novels set during the Great Plague, so I found it very interesting. I recommend it to all readers of the My Story series.

I'm one of those strange people who isn't a huge fan of the "classics". But this was the selection for bookclub, so I gave it a shot. It was an ambitious pick and I'll be curious to see how many of the girls actually got through it. I didn't know if I would, but I am glad I decided to finish. There were some good twists in the story and I really like some of Dicken's descriptions. My favorite character was Joe. Also found Havishem to be a fascinating character, although she definitely freaked me out. In my opinion, the book could have been much, much, much shorter- but apparantly Dickens got paid by the word, and he squeezed every dime he could out of this book!

First reviewed on blog: 16-17 July 2011 I loved Baby Be Mine! Just to get it over with! I LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!! Okay now that's that over with. Starting to read this book in the early hours of the morning around 4:45am as I couldn't wait till morning to see what happened. During reading Baby Be Mine it felt like their was an angel and a devil on each side of my shoulders the devil telling me to flick the angel telling me not to . . . in the end . . The angel one! Thank God! Immediately fell back into the swing of things with Meg, Johnny and Christian and again I didn't want it too end. I don't want to spoil the ending for people who have yet to read it as it was officially released today but I bought my copy in Easons earlier last week as they already had them on their shelves! I get what I want . . lets just put it like that . . Paige REALLY gave me what I wanted! I've read the last chapter and the epilogue since I finished Baby Be Mine about 60 times even more no joke. I just can't reading it. I'm really bursting with joy writing this and trying so hard to not give it away. I believe Meg and Johnny's story is finished with. . . I hope not but I think it is and I couldn't have wished for a better ending. It was everything I've been dreaming about since two years ago when I first read Johnny Be Good. I'm really going to miss Meg . . . Johnny. . . . Christian. . . and Barney. . . :( Need to get the tissues out! But I don't need to be upset to much . . as I only have to wait till 10 May 2012 till Paige Toon's new novel One Perfect Summer is released. :) Also I loved how Paige mentioned Daisy (Paola) and Luis from Chasing Daisy I love Daisy and was so happy when I read the wee bit about them. For me everything was perfect! All in all I loved reading this book and will love reading it again . . maybe in a few days you never know. I'll never stop reading the ending though. I want to give a big massive THANKS to Paige Toon who is so nice and such a wonderful author. Who's story's are amazingly perfect and for everyone. No one would be disappointed if you read one of her books . . so what are you waiting for? GO BUY
