Time was of the essence and I thought this would be a great lesson for my young sons, so I read the Three Cups of Tea: Young Readers edition instead. Along with my boys, I learned some good lessons. A little goes a long way (ie: Pennies for Peace). Mortenson has a huge heart. I know it must be hard on his own two children, with being gone months at a time. But they will grow up to see the importance of what their father is doing and appreciate it completely. Mortenson is an inspiration. But even more so are the people of the Pakistani villages he writes about. They are extremely hard workers, patient and kind. They do what they must with a strong level of gratitude and smiles on their faces. Muslim faith is not our "enemy". Terrorists are our enemies and the author is not afraid to speak up on this. Great discussion questions in the back of book as well. Recommend!

I was disappointed with "The Little Friend". I really enjoyed Tartt's first novel "The Secret History", but this one just fell short for me. I could appreciate her beautiful writing, but the novel seemed like it really could have used a better editor as at points it just seemed to ramble.

this is a great book..its like harry potter and narnia all wrapped into one..but for adults..There are some parts that made me a little uncomfortable..but i am looking forward to book 2 this summer..

I really liked the way the book challenges all notions of established sexuality, not only by making you question your own stances but by letting the characters be confused themselves, not knowing their real limits. What they think is right one moment they regret later, and then find ways to justify it again when they are angry or when they find a different side to it, though mostly this is a book about wilderness. There's.. no consequences, to anything, which makes this less stressing than it could have been -for which I'm glad, as I did get a bit stressed at times. I liked the confusion and the blurring of lines. I'm not very sure how I felt about the consensual lines blurring, though mostly it made me feel uncomfortable, and that's okay, too. If you don't question your own lines you'll never know where they stand. This was interesting, explicit, wild. It's a pretty quick good read.

honestly i have no idea if i liked this or not. it was very emtional and gave a wonderful perspective of a person with cerebal palsy, but i kind of wish the ending was different. there was no resolve with her mother, we don't know what happens after she leaves the room, or if she decides to continue with the quiz team or not.
