I missed out on this one when I was a kid, probably because I was a slow reader and this is a longer book for kids. I read it when I saw it on a frequently challenged list while in college. I didn't really understand why it was so frequently challenged. From what I recall the only objectionable thing was how mean the kids are to each other, a lot like Blubber.

Since this is my first Bond novel, I may eventually go back and lower the grade. But I'm giving it a 4 if only because I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Fleming writes with a simplicity that in enjoyable but not insulting. Good times, good times.

I fully enjoyed this work. It was not an overly long novel, but it did hold my interest throughout and I was loath to put it down. The main character is a joy to behold and with whom to experience the highs and lows of life.

Oh Boy, oh boy. What to say about one of the worst pieces of literature I have ever read. Dear God, Shakespeare, what were you thinking? I respect many of Shakespeare's works but this is not one of them. The story is two teenagers (who have never had to work for anything in their rich, spoiled lives) fall in love after one night. They decide to marry but their parents tell them no. They attempt to do it anything. They also fake their deaths which turn out to be real! Woah, baby! Bad. Bad. Bad.

I'm developing something of an addiction to graphic autobiographies. I began reading "Fun Home" on the heels of seeing her graphic review of a prose memoir in yesterday's New York Times, and continue to be delighted by her work. "Fun Home," the story of Bechdel's childhood as framed by her father's repressed homosexuality and death, is a well-illustrated, captivating read that skips lightly and seamlessly among several different times in her life while building layer by layer the tragic portrait of a very human father she struggles to know as she comes to terms with her own identity and sexuality. The book draws upon myriad literary references and frames her family in terms of the fiction they read as she grows--Joyce, Hemingway, and Fitzgerald make particularly prominent appearances. It's an absolutely worthwhile read.
