Another great addition. Though I haven't been floored by any LCR books, I've got to say that at this point, I'm very impressed. Each book has stood on its own and each couple is firmly entrenched into my romantic suspense library. (The one in my head) I feel comfortable in Last Chance Rescue world, and it's been nice getting to know all of those involved in the organization. This one's notable difference was its lack of gruesome rape/molestation. The idea was there, and I knew that the bad guy had done some of these horrible things, but for once I didn't have to have all of the scenes spelled out for me. Rather, I got to be quietly disgusted and still able to focus on the romance of the couple. I know in LCR 7, I was so turned off by the villain that I nearly forgot about the lovers. One complaint I have is that it ended with a lot of unanswered questions about the many side characters: Raphael and Giselle, the evil dude's wife and younger daughter. Maybe we'll get more in the last LCR book. I'm definitely looking forward to it!!

Picked this up and easily finished it on my flight to the freedom of spring break. A rather unconventional love story, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm not much for sappy romance novels, so the twists and turns of this novel kept my attention and actually had me rooting for the protagonist.

This book is considered a mountaineering classic. Long before modern high-tech took over issues related to climbing and its fears, mountaineers used to climb as Herzog and his team did in climbing to the top of Mt.Annapurna. This was 1950 and Annapurna was the highest mountain to be climbed then. The route was not known and so Herzog and his team not only had to climb to the top but had to find the route on the way as well. It is a gripping account of success, team work, avalanches, frost-bites and adventure. Many of the climbers lost limbs after their return. Unfortunately, fifty years after the evnt and the adventure saga had been reported Herzog's own words, eveidence came to dent the whole aura of romance and adventure. The truth is that it isn't really the truth! Beyond simply presenting the viewpoint of his own, Herzog's 'Annapurna' involves whitewashing and even, more or less, lies. Dialogue scenes are Herzog's after the fact inventions, and events are manipulated to present a picture of unanimous heroism, with Herzog always in the lead. Still, the fact remains that they were the first to be on top of Mt.Annapurna. In spite of the accusations, I would recommend the book for its drama and gripping narrative.

This book doesn't need a review. The only thing which I feel obliged to say is I thought the book was going to be a romance. Thus, I put off reading it for as long a time as I possibly could. When I began reading it, though, I turned from one page to the next, eager to find how the story unfolded. Jane Austen did an excellent job on this work. There's humour and love and everything you could want. Certainly added to my list of favorites.
I want to hang out with Tom Robbins, but I'm not sure I want to read his books anymore. If you took 100 pages out of this and straightened the story's spine, it would be bursting with wisdom and humor. As it is, it is the easiest thing in the world to put down (or fall asleep under), which is probably why it took me two months to read it. Yes it's brilliant, yes it's hilarious, but when the story wanders, it just gets boring. "Skinny Legs and All" is still one of my all-time favorites.
