Amazing. I didn't want it to end, but was dying to hear the conclusion. The concept of the story is so disturbing. To keep the country in line the Capital takes two teens from each district and forces them to fight to the death until 1 of 24 is left standing. That one is returned home with extra food for the district for the year, the rest of the districts remain hungry and only managing to get by. The story ends without answers, with everything staying the way it is. In my mind though the seed of a revolution is planted and each year it grows. I know there is a sequel. I am not sure how I feel about that. I want to know what happens to the characters, but I don't want the power of this book to be diminished by a sequel trying to answer all the questions left or try to hard to conclude a story that is best left with an open ending.

Oh dear God, I can not stop crying. And its honest crying too - not at all the product of cheap, sentimentalised manipulation. What a terrific, unexpectedly honest little gem of a book. Obviously aimed at the young teen but well worth the read - you can take that from someone who is going through a situation very similar to Colin and Ted's. SO many thanks to thingsmeanalot for this review which made me pick Two Weeks up when normally I would not have looked twice.

I liked this book, but not as much as the first one. The story seemed to drag a bit, and then the ending seemed abrupt. But still a series I'm loving. Looking forward to Rune Book.

Younger sister genetically engineered / born with purpose of being bone marrow donor. Younger sister gets lawyer to sue parents and refuse to donate kidney to older sister. I read this book in a day. Jodi Picoult is not a subtle author, but she can write a page-turner

I was a little worried about this book at first because I thought it might be preachy, and it was a little, but Princess stereotypes are such a big issue, one wonders if a book can be too heavy handed about it. One thing is I find myself feeling for the boys in this story more than the girls, they're being really excluded until the very end. I like that the picture actually shows more powerful versions of princesses so that they can have another image to aspire too.

Don't make the same mistake I did! Holiday Grind actually comes _before_ Roast Mortem. Whatever source I was using to arrange the books is wrong. It won't really hurt your enjoyment of the story, but there are some characters introduced in Holiday Grind that you'll want to meet in that order before you start Roast Mortem.

I borrowed this from the library to try out some of the recipes. I like it so much that I am going to buy it. Tonight I made Curly Kale and Potato Soup, the kale and leeks straight from the garden. Waters includes a lot of tips for changing the recipes to reflect what is in season. Simple and delicious.
