The Magic Paint is one of the short stories in this mini modern classics publication which is a delightful read. A slice of scientific facts and sense of humor, indeed the ending is unpredictable. The remaining stories: The Fugitive, Bureau of Vital Statistics and Buffet Dinner are not to be missed especially the Bureau of Vital Statistics with a bizarre setting and unexpected ending.

This was such a sweet book, and absolutely fascinating the culture in Gion at the time before and after WWII. As someone with ADHD who typically gets distracted with slower books, this book kept me entranced and I absolutely adored the writing style and metaphors used to help the reader along in understanding what she was experiencing. One of my favorite writing tenants is "don't tell the reader, show the reader." I most certainly feel like I was shown a slice of her life, and it was extraordinary. I am SUCH a lover of reading books and then IMMEDIATELY seeing the movies after the fact. So I guess this means MOVIE NIGHT! <3

So... happy surprise of all happy surprises... Tim Curry (Clue, Rocker Horror Picture Show, etc - love him) was the narrator of this audiobook! So that was wonderful and obviously he did a great job, but this book would have been great even with a less distinguished narrator. This is one of those books where they don't really do all that much world building, they just sorta throw you in and explain things along the way. For the most part I appreciate that, although there were a few things that took me a while to figure out. However, as can be common with audiobooks (both good and bad), I tend to multi-task. So I did occasionally let my attention slip while listening and so some of that confusion may be my fault rather than the books. Back to the actual book... this is an interesting an unique story where the dead can occasionally roam free, and require an Abhorsen (a sort of specialized necromancer via their bloodline) to keep them in line. Sabriel gets thrown into this world somewhat abruptly and encounters a snarkily talking cat, a boy trapped as a ships figure-head, crazy magical flying contraptions, and an evil creature out to get her! What will she do?! Well you'll have to read to find out, but I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's not the fastest paced book, but there isn't much down-time either and I definitely got invested in the main characters and their plight. It was a good non-cliffhanger ending so I'm very interested to see where the next one will go.

Bu benim bunun için ikinci seferim olacak. Gençken ondan nefret ettiğimi hatırlıyorum. Ancak, Netflx'te gerçekten çok iyi bir bbc film uyarlaması izledim. Orijinal hikayede epeyce özgürlük almış gibilerdi ama yine de oldukça iyiydi. Artık büyüdüğüm ve tamamen farklı bir zihniyete sahip olduğum için kitabı tekrar okursam kitap hakkındaki düşüncemin değişip değişmeyeceğini merak ettim. Yaşın ve zamanın fikrimi hiç değiştirmediğini öğrendim. Hala bu kitabı sevmiyorum. 15 Mart 2015 tarihinde düzenlendi: Bu incelemeyi yayınladığımdan beri romanı iki kez daha okudum ve ayrıca bu romanın iki film uyarlamasını daha izledim. Hikayede beni büyülenen ve sürekli onu tekrar ziyaret etmek isteyen bir şeyler olması gerektiğine karar verdim. Aslında favorilerimden biri haline geliyor.
