This is the third book in an amazing series. Can I just say that I have always had a fascination in boarding schools and books that involve Boarding Schools are my favorite. I guess it is because you remove the element of parents and a whole world of possibilities opens up. But then you combine that with spies and esponiage and it becomes so much better. What I love about the girls in this novel is that they are there for each other through thick and through thin. I wish that I had friends that I was so close with that they are literally sisters to me. Plus there is the whole spying and secrets thing. I am like any girl and I love secrets. That is what I love about this novel. It is like a big puzzle that you are piecing together one piece at a time, but at the same time, it isn't as heavy as adult suspense novels can be. Additionally, the novel is written as if it was a report that is being written after the fact. That means that you are at least assured of the fact that nothing terribly bad is going to happen to the main characters. That is one of the things that I like best about the Young Adult genre... they don't tend to keep you in too much suspense. I love the little bit of Romance in this series, but what I love the most about this series is that it is even more about sisterhood and protecting your besties. I am not a feminist by any stretch of the imagination, but too many times in the media we see examples of when best friends stab each other in the back. They sleep with each others boyfriends and they are all out for themselves, so it is nice to come across a series that is entirely about staying loyal to your sisterhood above all else. The other thing that is great about this series is that unlike in books such as Harry Potter, they treat many things a lot more realistically. Not all fights with the bad guys happen just before the end of the semester (this one happened with at least three weeks left to go in the semester). In addition, their hair doesn't always look perfect after a fight, when they are battling for their lives, they get concussions and have to spend weeks to fully recover. That is something that I appreciate about this series and this author. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book. I have it requested at the library and I am only waiting to get the email telling me that they have it on hold for me. Let me just say that if you have not read this series, I highly recommend that you read it. It is definitely one that when I can afford it, I will be buying these books. I have the first one and I cannot wait to get the next three! Rating: 5/5

I honestly don't know why people flocked to this book. It's a middle east conflict done up in a sci-fi setting with 70s influences all over it. Mediocre at best, reading this one was almost a chore.

At only 150 pages this was quite a short and quick read. Callie is a cutter, cutting her skin removes the emotional pain she feels and replaces it with physical pain, but she never cuts herself deep enough to die. People who cut most often do it as a cry for help, they don’t really want to die, they want help but are afraid to ask for it so they cut instead. Callie is in a residential treatment facility called ‘Sea Pines’ but doesn’t want to participate in any of the group discussions, won’t talk about her own situation and what prompts her to cut but she can only stay silent for so long before everything comes rushing out. This book is more geared to a youth audience but is good for parents who can learn a lot about various teenage problems like drug abuse, alcohol dependency, cutting and severe emotional trauma. Overall, a fairly informative book.

** spoiler alert ** Ms.Havisham is not a mean bitter old women, as everyone thinks she is. She was once nice and kind, but after she was left at the alter by Magwich, she turned into what she is now. Poor Ms. Havisham.

I really enjoyed this book, and had a hard time putting it down. It wasn't my favorite in comparison to Quinn's other books, probably because Roman legions aren't my favorite cultural element, but the characters are so intriguing and addicting. I really wish I could continue straight into the next book! I continue to tell my students to read Quinn's books, and this one is no exception.

This is a collection of short stories. I did not find this to be one of her best. Her female characters are either stereotypically weak or strong to the point of obnoxiousness and over bearing. These stories usually have a moral if even a trite one. I felt I was reading various versions of the same story over and over.
