Tales of exploration. Of physical nature and of the mind. These things appeal to me. Growth throughout life. This appeals to me. Leaving and escaping life love and the importance of interaction. This does not appeal to me. This book was great at times but trying. Krakauer tries to paint the image but becomes a bit overstated in his exuberance. If not for the mirrored and repetitious layout throughout this book it would be recommended. Nevertheless I don't regret the read for the inspiration behind those appealing moments.

While not quite as amazing as Still Alice, this was a wonderful book. I liked that it taught me about a neurological condition I had no idea existed, & I liked all the relationships in the story--Sarah and her husband, Sarah and her children, and that Sarah was able to reconnect with her estranged mother because of the accident. But I loved the writing and the author's marvelous sense of humor.

If you read this book and find yourself identifying strongly with either Mildred or Veda Pierce, put the book down, go to your computer, and find the closest mental-health care professional in your network. You are going to need to spend *a lot* of time on the couch. This is the actual book and it is much better than the screenplay. I guess if you've seen the movie or the HBO show, you might not have seen what Cain actually wrote.

Found this book in the attic when just a kid and it spooked the hell out of me. Dr. Fodor investigates real (?) and alleged cases of the paranormal. Anyone interested in the subject will eat it up.

Well written as far as modern novels go, but I don't see what the fuss was all about. Despite claims of legitimacy, there isn't really a whole lot of truth here; that's why it's fiction. From a purely historical standpoint the story is plausible, especially given the modern Church's lack of historical knowledge. This is basically the written equivalent of a summer popcorn action movie (and the book was more riveting than the film, this time around). Sadly, Christians don't know any better.

I read this book a long, long, long time ago. Like a decade. Or maybe 7 years. Something like that in ancient history. I don't remember much, but I do remember chuckling out loud a couple times. So, I think I liked it. I may change my mind if I read it again today, but who knows. Here's the important thing - this new book cover (not the one it had when I read it) is freaky weird looking. What's with the floating eyes and mouth in clown makeup? I would not read this book with it's weird new cover. I like to judge books by their cover.

wish the book was bigger. the pictures and writing kinda small. But great pictures and I am envious for such an adventure. I liked how each chapter had the area he was visiting highlighted against a total map of China so one could really see where he was going.
