I have not disliked a single one of the IAD books and think they just keep getting better. I was eagerly awaiting Regin's book - because she is by far the coolest Valkyrie - and this installation was A-mazing! Declan = awesome hero in a less than typical sense. Regin = awesome heroine who got better and better as her character developed. I laughed. I cried. I want to write Cole a cheesy fangirl letter, I like these books so freaking much.

I’ve had this book on my to-read list for years and I finally decided to read it. I LOVE the concept – getting a chance to relive your life, knowing what you know now. What changes would you make? What would you do differently or the same? How might those changes affect not only you, but other people in your life, and the world at large? I was surprised at how differently my mind works from that of the main character Jeff. I would never think about creating vast personal wealth. I wouldn’t have thought about trying to change world affairs either. That just seems too daunting and, as Jeff and Pamela found out, the results of such changes could be cataclysmic. My focus would be on changes in my personal life. Mundane and self-centered as that might seem, it would also affect other people. The extrapolated effects are mind-boggling. Pamela’s view, “I got so used to the endless possibilities, the time . . . never being bound by our mistakes, always knowing we could go back and change things, make them better. But we didn’t, did we? We only made things different.” feels sort of bleak. But Peter Skjoren sees things in a more hopeful way, “This time . . . he would do it right.” Spoiler: The author almost lost me in Chapter 15. I thought, oh no, not aliens. PLEASE! I did not spend all this time reading this to find out it’s sci-fi. The only thing lamer would be if it were all a dream. Luckily, neither was the case.

There were a few too many cat puns and cliches for my taste, but I kind of expected that before I opened the book, so I was prepared. And I enjoyed the story as well as the characters

I know this is blasphemy, but the original source material far outshines Marlowe and Goethe's work. It's hard to find the collected German legends surrounding the real Doctor Faust, but it's so worth the effort.

I adore this book. The Hurdmans (especially Gladys) just kill me. They are wild, fighting, cigar-smoking, dirty, and numerous. They decide that they want to be a part of the annual Christmas pageant (run by those stuffy Church Ladies-- you know the type), even though they've never even heard the Christmas Story. Chaos ensues (as you may have guessed), but in the end, the Hurdmans manage to teach a valuable lesson about love and tolerance. My mom read this to me when I was very young, and it's always held a special place in my heart. I am entertaining the idea of reading it to my home room, but have reservations because of its the Christian nature (I know, I know, typical liberal overreaching, but I think teachers must be careful about displaying (and therefore endorsing and imposing(ooh, sub-sub-parenthetical)) religion. I don't even say the "under God" part in the Pledge. That's just me). There is The Best School Year Ever, but it's not quite the same (okay, I admit it: it doesn't make me cry like this one does). Ah, ethical dilemmas.

This review was first published on my blog Lecture Toute une Aventure where you can find it in its integrality I was positively surprised, I didn’t expect to feel so at home at this universe. It’s the Cassie Palmer's world even if it’s from another part so we can discover more about characters we already know and at the same time discover new ones and the world better. It took my between 5 and ten pages to make the connection but it’s can also be read without knowledge of the other Karen Chance’s series. If you are new to this author, perhaps you will need some pages to be completely drawn in the universe. You will discover a world at war but from characters that are apart of this world at first, a bit like a external point of view. If you are a fan of Cassie Palmer, you can discover the consequences of her actions and understand some hints and links left in the series (remember, the album picture in book 4…) We discover Mircea under a new eye but still…. I don’t like him. He is really bad at loving and showing his love. His actions always have destructives consequences and he doesn’t seem to learn ( I mean, this was what? 500 or 400 before Cassie and still act like that!). Louis-Cesare is coping with the result of the time slip and sometimes I wanted to slap him so he could see what was just in front of him. Dorina is a lovely heroine who is trying to find her place in a world that is against her existence but, she first has to accept herself and she is doing a good job of it. She fights but protects, has morals even with her “genetic” enemies and makes real friends without realising it (look at the good pet she gains ^^;;)

I could see how this book could be a compelling movie, but unfortunately it doesn't resonate as much in print. It's a feel good story (or about as feel good as any story about a stateless and ravaged nation can get) about a Palestinian girl who grows up and away from extremism. Jebreal's writing is stark and plain, but that style of writing fits the story. The author isn't worried about storytelling so much as telling a story, and she succeeds in a very average fashion. It's neither good or bad but it delivers in digestable bits the story of a nation and a people that many may not be familiar with. Personally, I found the main character Miral so much less interesting than her mother, a more damaged and vulnerable and multilayered character, and so when the book began to focus on Miral, the boredom set in. However, there are very strong female characters in this book, all very different from each other in passions, in their attitudes and their life choices, and that interplay is beautiful.

This was a pleasant enough read. My mom really enjoyed it. I just wouldn't recommend it to anyone I like.

Irving's first novel, it's a thoughtful look at friendship placed within a series of strange events. Very small in length and scope where Irving's concerned, but a very good read.
Another book featuring a meteorite! At least this one has characters that are a little more well drawn than Go Big or Go Home. Had I known that solar eclipses could have such a transformative effect on teen attitudes, I think I would have been actively seeking them out a few years ago :)(solar eclipses not teens!) This book has lots of good astronomy facts weaved into the story (told in alternate chapters from three points of view). I am looking forward to reading it with my astronomate.
