I really enjoyed this book. Yes, there are some typos and some minor things such as overused words (foxy), but keeping in mind the experience of the writer and the fact that she is self promoting her work I was overall very impressed. The plot is solid, the characters approachable, and writing was better than expected. I've already purchased book 2. For having paid only .99 cents for this book it was well worth the price.

Ms Powell offers a glimpse of humanity during the depression and war years, a look so well written that it's as fresh as if it were written just yesterday. I've often wondered if Steinbeck and Hemmingway were overrated, now, I know they are. Dawn died in near obscurity and definite poverty because she found it hard to compete in the world of male authors.

Just came out today and I have NO money!!!! Argh. Of course the library would NEVER carry a new fantasy book on the day of release.

This spellbinding graphic novel is an autobiographical account of life in North Korea's capital city, told from the perspective of a French animator who is sent to oversee animation production in various cities throughout Asia. Its US publication in 2005 just happened to coincide with a peak in tension between the two countries, and it gave me a rare illustrated peek into the weird sights and experiences of the few foreigners who work there. It also clearly makes the point that the North Korea that those foreigners see is still a far remove from the world of the average NK citizen. A real trip--in all senses of the phrase--and totally worth reading.

Entertaining and very atmospheric. A bit ridiculous and sketchy. Didn't mind the main female character too badly- which incase you haven't noticed, isn't very common. She wasn't great mind you, just ok. :P Even she caved in and became as ridiculous as Will in parts. Not that I don't like either of them, but rather than helping each other much, they seemed to feed off each other's weaknesses, which was a problem I saw often in the Mortal Instruments series as well. This book wasn't as bad as those (as bad as Jace and Clary), but there was hints of it, and maybe I am just intollerant, but I found at least some of the boy girl drama pathetic or at least a bit annoying. I do hope that the second book is good! The 4th Mortal Instruments book was a dissappointment, which I hope doesn't speak for her future coming books.

Certainly not one of my favorites in the series, but an okay installment in the series. Compelling opening, great villains, good mystery and excellent dialogue don't add up to a satisfying whole, but I always feel like I learn something from a Lee Child novel and this is no exception.

The second book is similar to the first: gritty, not very much magic (a Good Thing), and chapters skip around to various character's point of view. While it is a well-told tale, the values and morals of the characters are hackneyed and stylized. One can predict what they will do for the most part. My favorite character is Tyrion. He's my kind of cynic. Surprisingly, he actually tries to do some good things.
