Although there was really nothing mind shatteringly amazing in this book, I'm giving it 4 stars because it was a page turner and I read it in two days. Gladwell is an easy read and his personality comes through , even when presenting statistics. Being a teacher, I was most interested in the chapter on the KIPP schools, and I was pleased that his message of "hard work and luck" was applied here. I was also happy at the end to FINALLY have some chicks in this book! Is every outlier a man? (Don't answer that.) But come on, I am interested in why old Jewish men are such damn good lawyers, sure, but this book needs more balance with some female success stories. That being said, he does give props to his mom and grandmother in the epilogue. My favorite quote from this book, which I will be enlarging and hanging in my classroom (and referencing often) is, "Practice isn't the thing you do once you're good. It's the thing you do that makes you good."

I don't know how I felt about Shreve Stockton and about cattle ranching and being paid by the government to shoot coyotes. The charm of this book is in the coyote ..... he is so unbelievably cute ... and despite her carnivorous approach to life she does seem to really love her animal companions, horse, cat, coyote and sometimes boyfriend.
