I think all the books should be at 3 1/2 stars, since that isn't an option I bumped it up to 4. I liked the way this all ended. That made my time seem worthwhile in the end.

I read this book long, long ago and then downloaded it again for my Kindle. I'd forgotten every bit of the story in the years in between, but I still loved it when I read it again. In some ways it's old school romance, in others (especially the sensuality level) I think Ms. Lindsey was ahead of her time (as she was in writing futuristic romance!). She was a treasured author for me for a long time and now I remember why. :)

Holmes - what a guy! Written, of course, long before political correctness had any place in the world. So, our man is something of a rock star for his time, a drug user, very anti establishment, arrogant, charming &c. Part of the charm of this is it's innocence, the notion that you could follow a sniffer dog across London is a delight. The line between good guys and bad is blurred, as it often is with Holmes. If you think you know the characters, but haven't actually read any of the stories, do yourself a favour. You can smell the river - and the tobacco directly from the page. Wonderful.

If you like history you will like this book. The scary thing is that sleeping sickness still exists, last case as recently as 2006. Molly Caldwell Crosby is a local Memphis author and I wish I would of been able to make it to her recent book signing.

This was the first long novel I read. I read it in 7th grade, and the only "Book" I had read with more pages up to that time was the Bible. I enjoyed it immensely, though I am not a fan of fantasy as a genre, Tolkien certainly made the story epic. I liked that Bilbo was a thief, and this seemed to blur the line of simplistic Good & Evil. I still like the story, and I am 30 years older than when I first read it now.

I have read almost all of Grisham's novels...some I like, some I dislike. I find a lot of his books are a bit slow-going. However, I really enjoyed this one and had a hard time putting it down. Definitely one of my favorite Grisham novels.
