I'm not exactly sure how to go about rating biographies. I'm not particularly a fan of non-fiction and I definitely think it's a genre that is a little harder to rate than fiction. This is due to many factors, the primary one being that there is no way I can verify or dispute the veracity of the text. The primary reason I read biographies is to find out more about authors or people in which I'm interested. Since, for me, this is the determining factor on which to judge the quality of a biography, it's hard to effectively rate it, so feel free to discount my rating. I felt Seymour included a lot of information in this biography of Mary Shelley. In fact, I learned a lot about her mother, her father, her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley. Of course these individuals were huge influences in her life so I felt it was appropriate. The only thing I didn't particularly like about the book was that sometimes it was just confusing. This had a little to do with the jumping in referring to future and past dates particularly when discussing correspondence and a lot to do with sentence composition and wording choices. Overall, I think it was interesting and provided a lot of information. However, it was also fairly obvious that Seymour wasn't as impartial a historian as she could have been, definitely favoring Mary Shelley and attempting to convince her readers how Mary was often misunderstood and misrepresented in so many previous biographies or historical text.

Ugh, busy month. Didn't have as much reading time as I'd have liked. Good book though. A bit limited by its message, I feel.

** spoiler alert ** I enjoyed this book but nearly as much as I enjoyed Twilight. I enjoyed finding out Jaspers back story. It was very interesting and well developed. I had quite a few moments of spontanious laughter while reading this and probably go odd looks from people as well but it was just too funny to keep it in. My favorite thing that Jacob Black said was in a reference to Dr. Carlisle, he called him Dr. Fang. Its so simple yet hystarical. I love all the little things like that, it make the story more fun. I also was inmpressed with her telling of the fight with Victoria, its hard to write action scenes in a novel and she excucted it beautifully. The night that Edward, Bella and Jacob spend in the tent together is probably my favorite part in this book. I have heard that the last book is the best and I am anxious to see what I think of it.

This audiobook was read by the author. I think her delivery really helped give this memoir some ooomph. It was nothing groundbreaking, but just enjoyable. Three discs was just right.

** spoiler alert ** I'm conflicted on what to rate this book - it made me feel all kinds of things: anger, sadness, indignation, inspiration, hope, disgust, motivation - all at once. I guess I did like it because it made me proud of her for her adult life, but so angry at her parents. And yet, they did some things right - at least they taught their kids to love learning, to be independent, to not complain, to be strong and resourceful, and to see the positive in things. Of course, some of that was just a byproduct of their life. But of course, you could teach kids those things while also putting food on the table and a roof over their heads, and staying sober. It also made me grateful for everything I've eaten since reading it.

The hero Heath is a successful software engineer and former youth offender. After a rough childhood his wealthy uncle offered him a place at his country estate where he ran a sort of rehabilitation scheme for troubled young boys. The heroine Bronte was the daughter of the estates housekeeper and they had become young friends. Years later, Heath has discovered his uncle has left him the estate in his will, although now it is very much in disrepair. He travels up to decide what to do with it and also get some closure on his past, where he meets Bronte again. Bronte is now a grown woman who has just returned from studies and travelling. She wants to help Heath restore the estate to it's former glory and get a job as the estate manager. She knows she has a job on her hands to convince Heath and as they spend time together they both have to fight the intense attraction between them. I'm sorry, but I really didn't like this story. I spent most of the book not really understanding what was going on. The narrative and dialogue seemed very erratic and seemed to jump around a lot, I found myself re-reading many sections to see if I had missed something. I didn't really care for either character, they were both too self absorbed in their own worlds. Also, the book is set in Yorkshire... the hero is called Heath... the heroine is called Bronte... that's about as subtle as a brick. A story that doesn't really make sense and moves slowly. Disappointing. Originally posted at http://everyday-is-the-same.blogspot....

Collected stories from a show Auster ran on NPR. Real folks telling real stories with an extraordinary twist, these were the only qualifications. Lends narrative credence to the fact that people are endlessly varied and endlessly fascinating. Highly highly recommended.

Kullandığım DVD'lerden ve raflarımda toz toplayan diğer rehberlerden çok daha yararlı. Daha fazla örnek uygulama olmasını isterdim, ancak talimatlar ve fotoğraflar inanılmaz derecede açık.
