A seminal work. Read it along with a companion or a commentary or two.

From this book I learned what the effect of not getting enough affection from your parents can have on you.In the mind of a gang member,a gang is not just a gang. For gang members,a gang is a family. and this I can relate this to The Outsiders.Johnny Cade,Ponyboy's friend, joins the Greasers not to be part of the gang, but to look for a family in the gang.

I love Jen Lancaster. This book wasn't as good as the memoirs but still an entertaining read!

Jim Butcher's harry dresden series starts out pretty solid, and only gets stronger as time goes along. in this first one, our intrepid wise-cracking wizardly p.i. has to figure out who in chi-town has been using black magic to kill people. basically, imagine if harry potter was in his 30s, bitter, and american, and you'd have this harry. the series is a lot of fun, but definitely read them in order, as there's a story arc that gets increasingly referred-to but not explained as the books go along.

I read this on my plane trip to and from Buffalo - a pilgrimage to wing Mecca. It was fun to read about the critic who was reviewing restaurants at the same time I lived in New York. Ruth Reichl made an effort to review ethnic restaurants and not just give 3-4 stars to the classic hoity toity Fronch ones. She's also nuts.

Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" (also known as "Ten Little Indians",)is a great who done-it mystery. Ten unacquainted people are lured by various pretexts to Indian Island off the coast of Devon. Where they are promptly accused by their unseen host of having escaped punishment for past crimes. The island is cut off from any communication from the mainland. One by one they are killed of just as a nursrey rhyme is quoted. There are ten figurines that are broken as each person is murdered. It stands to reason that one of them is the murderer...but which one? I have read this book time and a gain and it still keeps my interest.

It keeps you reading. In particular, the last third of the book is very arresting. I recommend it for a good read, some cool plot twists and turns near the books finish make it well worth it.
