While this book has been praised by many for its simple style, I frankly found it dull. The mysteries could be solved by a fifth grader and yet the reader has to observe our number one lady detective go through her painstakingly slow thought process for every case she cracks. As a side note, McCall Smith uses the word "gingerly" in excess, which grated on me a bit. That said, there is some merit in this book in the glimpse into life in Botswana which it provides.

I really enjoyed this book - the writing, the characters, and the insights shared by "Grandma Rose". It has only a 3.9 average rating on Good Reads - that surprised me. I was not looking for an original story or a surprise plot, so maybe it just fit my needs when I read it. I liked it. It was one of those books that make me wish I had beautiful words to express my feelings and memories.

Good book and good story. One of the best quotes about ministry I've seen in a while comes from this book. “Maybe that was what a chaplain’s job really was- not to teach others to believe, but to be seen to believe oneself. To stand no so much for a specific faith, but for the endurance of faith, for its power to outlast everything else." It's lead me to a new understanding of chaplaincy. Very cool.

Miss Delacourt Has Her Day is a good novel that contains characters from a previous story. I was slightly lost at times, especially when the tale lead towards the previous storyline. Ms. Ashworth’s writing style has a Jane Austin feel about it. I really liked how the moral of the story was encased throughout the pages as Ginny struggled to fit into what everyone thought a true Duchess would act like as she fought against her very nature. This is a steady historical romance that has spots of witticism, adventure, and two people who are willing to change for the ones they love.
