The true story of how William grew up in Malawi and was forced to drop out of school because of a famine that occurred in 2002. During this period William starts visiting a local library in an effort to continue his education on his own. This library has a total of three rows of books that have been donated from all over the world. His visits to the library lead him to a book called Explaining Physics. He slowly starts making his way through this book, digesting the diagrams and looking up the English words in a dictionary. He is so enthralled by the book that he decides to build his own small windmill. The local villagers call him a madman because all they see is a boy who is collecting trash and building a structure that is inconceivable to them. In the end William builds a functioning windmill and has a dream to build a structure that light up his entire village and another that can pump water and prevent starvation during any future droughts. Through chance, William is discovered and helped by a group of people that see his potential. He is even given an opportunity to tell his story at a TED conference which opens up a whole new world for him. I found the entire book to be fascinating, though parts of it went into a bit too much detail on the mechanics of building a windmill. It also made me aware of how little I pay attention to what is happening in the rest of the world.

Dog-handler heroine is shocked to see architect Hero again & be very attracted to him, even though she thinks he's a snob. She 1st encountered Hero some weeks ago when she overheard him denigrating her marriage worthiness to her millionaire ex-fiance just b/c she was a mere hairdresser. Hero doesn't recognize her but thinks she's sexy & caring from how she handled her sister's beloved dog, especially compared to his very recent ex-GF. Without informing him about their prior interaction, heroine gives Hero a chance & watches him for any display of class prejudice. In the meantime, Hero feels out of his usual control due to his desire & feelings for heroine. Their r/s takes a turn when heroine finally tells Hero about her breakup with her ex-fiance & his part in it. Another good Darcy book. The romance was sexy & cute. Well-paced because of Darcy's emotionally-charged writing style. It wasn't angtsy but had a few poignant moments. This was not a heavily emotional book & had more light & fun moments. Sexual chemistry & sex scenes sizzled. Hero & heroine were likeable for the most part. I liked heroine's grit & ambition to surpass past tragedy & hardship. She had a good attitude about life but she lacked some self-confidence. She used to be a social climber but realized that money wouldn't bring her the happiness she wanted. When she met Hero, her confidence in herself was still shaky. She was worried about her not being good enough to mingle with his wealthy friends & family members. She depended on Hero to assuage her on this. Hero was a charming & confident playboy. He's used to getting what he wants & was fascinated when heroine responds to him differently than most women. I liked that he was flummoxed by how heroine affected him. And he groveled well enough to compensate for hurting heroine by judging her before he even knew her. Recommended.

Erkek Aklının Tutulması TrendKitaplar Kütüphanesi

Just finished it and I'm still a little confused (hence, the 4 stars). I'm still think this has the makings of an excellent horror if only I understood it more. The Haunting of Hill House , despite being a haunted house story, does not read like a typical horror story. It does not feel like it has to go out of its way to scare you; there is no terrifying description of ghosts to haunt you in your sleep. The manifestations themselves, which plaque the characters throughout their stay in Hill House are generally mild and mostly confined to door shaking and rattling. This is not to say, though, that the book isn't scary. It is, although more "chilling" (as the blurb at the back says) than outright frightening. It creeps like a shadow from behind, scaring you for a moment until you realize that it was just nothing. Or so you tell yourself. And that pretty much is how the story reads (and why I am confused). All the characters that arrive at Hill House have brought with them their respective psychological baggage that it is hard to tell if there was even a haunting or was it all just in their heads. Was there really something in there or was it just their merely their psychological demons haunting them? From a technical standpoint, it was brilliantly written. Typical of Jackson's style is the tragic surprise of the ending, which I really loved. Definitely deserves a reread
