I guess that this has all the elements that I love about Shojo. It's romantic, funny with a bit of drama and slice of life. Also you'll learn a lot about classical music.

A friend of mine lent this book to me. I am not normally a fantasy reader, particularly not this type of fantasy, which I like to call Chosen One fantasy. This one completely blew away my expectations. From the first page, I was enjoying the narrative style and the voice. It was relatable and easy without being simplistic. Lots of lovely imagery. But I definitely wasn't sold on the killer unicorn plot until later in the book. But, by the end, I confess, I was turning pages eagerly, dying to know what came next. And the next book will be on my to-read list. Thank you Diana Peterfreund, for making me rethink a genre and opening my mind.

I highly recommend this book. Dan Savage is the syndicated gay columnist who writes some really funny advice columns. Here, he explores each of the "seven deadly sins" in one of there modern iterations. For example, for "Gluttony," he visits a Fat Admirer (FA) convention in Vegas. It's filled with big, big women, and the men that love them. For "Lust", he interviews a very well-to-do "normal" couple in, I believe, Chicago. They are married, have kids, white-collar jobs, but are involved in the swinging community. This one was the most interesting for me, because he talked about aspects of human physiology that I had learned about in the past, how neither human males nor females being hard-wired for monogamy (not that this is some sort of excuse for multiple partners). The book is really funny and entertaining, and takes you into subcultures (FA, Swinging, other stuff) that you dont hear much or anything about. Entertaining if nothing else.

This is a very cute book. It will teach students vocabulary. It is also a fun read and i can see the boys in the class leaning towards this book due to the action and monsters. This book can be read to talk about families or mothers. It's also just a book to laugh along with. The kids will definitely enjoy it.

Ronan McBride loses his family's bar and they are basically forced to raffle it off in America. Carlene is the winner of the pub who shocks everyone, in America and in Ireland, when she actually comes to run the Pub. Ballybeog is a tight knit community, and it's not quite clear how they feel about the "yank". Some people blatantly want her gone and some can't decide. She falls in with Ronan McBride, the old pub owner and notorious gambler. You know the two are going to get together, but the waiting just about killed me. I wasn't prepared for one thing... The swearing. There are quite a few F-bombs in the book. I didn't particularly mind, and it makes sense since it takes place in Ireland, but some readers might be offended if they weren't expecting it. This is a fun read, and it definitely had some romance novel appeal. I recommend it to romance novel lovers who don't mind a bit of swearing, and fans of Ireland.
