Written when he was 82...a semi-serious political commentary of today's government with anecdotes and reflection on his own life and adventures. Interesting artwork included and great quotes highlighted. A quick read (I read it in 3 hours)...have a pen or pencil with you...you might want to make notes. Very proprioceptive...I give it an A.

The book is so good I am literally tongue-tied trying to describe all the ways I loved it--the romantic tension of the love-triangle, Gaughen’s deft, beautiful prose and inventive imagery. SCARLET is a page-turner and will easily suck in not just Robin Hood fans but also readers who aren’t familiar with the legend (like me). A stunning debut! A.C. Gaughen establishes herself as a formidable fresh young talent.

** spoiler alert ** I read the Darkness Chosen series and loved it. I did not like this book. Other reviewers thought that their confusion when reading this book was because they hadn't read the previous series. I don't think that is the problem. There is very little in this book that ties with Darkness Chosen. There is a character that is the son of characters in the Darkness series but very little else ties in. The confusion for me seemed to be that the author threw me in to the middle of a story. I don't know what happened before, so I can't properly understand what is happening now. That might be part of the reason that I didn't like the main character, Jacqueline. She acted like a brat, and I don't understand why she hated her "love interest" so much. Even when Jacqueline replayed the events that led up to their break-up, I couldn't understand why she physically tried to kill him when they met up again a couple years later. When she forgives him later, it happened so fast that it seemed unreal. I almost stopped reading the book because of Jacqueline. I got through it, but I'm not sure that I want to continue the series. A friend told me that some of the books are good.

*Spoilers if you haven't read Perfect Chemistry. And why would you want to read a review of the second book in the series if you haven't read the first book????? Go read Perfect Chemistry, it's worth it!* I probably should not have read this right after Perfect Chemistry. I was tired of gangs and Mexican boys with attitudes. I should have read something a little lighter. But instead I picked up the sequel and felt like I was reading the same book as Perfect Chemistry, a little. All the same cockiness, drugs, gangs, troubled boy, girl trying to save him etc. was all there. Of course, it was written very differently and I have to give Simone Elkeles an A for effort for taking basically the same plot and putting a whole different cast of characters in it and twisting it around. I honestly didn't see how she'd work this one out, but then that's why I'm not the writer. She tied up all loose ends and gave us a glimpse into the future which was amusing. As she did in Perfect Chemistry, the chapters alternated between the two main characters Carlos, Alex's middle brother and Kiara, the daughter of Alex's old psychology professor and Carlos just happens to be staying in his house after he gets in some trouble at school. As far as character development goes it seems to me that everything is a problem for Carlos. Whether he's at school, in the REACH program, with his brother or with Kiara. He seems to only let down his guard when he plays with Brandon, Kiara's little brother. He is constantly worried. It takes the joy out of his life and out of the time he spends with anyone. Kiara on the other hand doesn't seem to worry about anything. She just seems to have an "Oh Well," attitude about everything. It's not believable. I didn't feel attached to either character so I didn't really get emotionally attached to the story. However, that did not detract from my enjoyment of the story. And I loved the descriptions of the mountains as Alex was driving Carlos into Boulder from the airport. I tried to stay up all night to finish this one, but my tired eyes just wouldn't let me. It will definitely capture your attention and reel you in right from the beginning, despite it being similar to Perfect Chemistry. There's just something about those Fuentes boys. You have to know what's going to happen to them. And you hope for the best for them. I can't wait to read Luis' story, Chain Reaction coming up in August.

Emma Whitecastle is trying to enjoy a romantic Thanksgiving weekend with her boyfriend on Catalina, but the trip is interrupted when she keeps seeing the ghost of a woman who disappeared in the 60's. Can Emma find out what really happened to the woman? It was great to see these characters again, and I enjoyed the humor in the book. Yet it reaches a more serious ending, which I found appropriate. Read my full review at Carstairs Considers.

These books are the work of an unequaled talent and astounding brain. Of the three, "Perelandra" is my fave. It is the continuing story of Ransom, who, after traveling to Malacandra in "Out of the Silent Planet", is now assigned to journey to the planet Perelandra, where he must oppose the evil Professor Weston. The descriptions of the planet are astounding and indelible. I've never longed to see a thing as much as this book made me long to see Perelandra. It is the story of Perelandra's first two inhabitants - this world's Adam and Eve. It is the deeply intriguing tale of what happens when evil is defeated, and God and good prevail. Beautiful and compelling. Love Clive Staples Lewis.

His characterizations are superb of people exactly caught betwixt their demons, passions, and ideals.

This is one of the best books that I have ever read. Roberts brings you so fully in to his world that you fall in love with not only the characters, but with India as well, just as the main character Lin does. You MUST read this book, it will teach you so much about life and love and everything in between.
** spoiler alert ** You know a book is going to be wild/engrossing when two kids bite it right off the bat! They kept that part out of the movie naturally!! :P Good action/mystery story.
