An interesting premise: the changeling myth set in mid-20th century America that never quite lives up to the promise. I never felt like I was able to embrace the characters completely. Nevertheless, it was an interesting story for the premise alone and worth a read. Quite different from other books out there.

Can't quite work out what I think of this book. The characters are certaily acutely drawn but they're just not very nice people and as a result it's hard work at times. His writing is not brilliant but the subject matter is interesting and I did enjoy reading about it and definitely enjoy talking about it. I say read it and make up your own mind.

I picked this up after reading one of Meyers' short stories in an anthology. I just remember the writing sucking me in almost despite myself, and this book was the same. There were some places where I felt he was trying a bit too hard, and the conclusions seemed a little too easy. But I didn't mind too much.
