bagus! plot nya cepat, tidak bertele-tele hanya sedikit bingung di awal cerita dengan banyaknya nama dan ternyata semua nama yang disebut di buku ini tidak ada yang muncul sia-sia. Karen Rose.... I Luv your books ^o^ Love Daniel and Alex.

A truly fantastic epic fantasy! Don't know how this one escaped my notice all these years. An intricate plot with very intriguing, believably flawed characters against a very interesting background. Sort of the epic fantasy version of Braveheart. (bands of somewhat "uncivilized" rebels fighting desperately to overthrow a vastly larger, more powerful empire and gain their freedom. The Valdani empire is very reminiscent of Rome instead of England, though)Very good story. Got to read the rest of the series.

This book made me angry enough with myself that I had to change the way that I look at the world.

Hammel is noted for his exhaustive research and epic narratives of important battles. Never since Xenophon and the 10,000 marched out of Persia has a band of men faced more staggering odds, in the grip of a brutal Mother Nature, with only their collective will to live as the thread which kept them together. One reinforced Marine division of 20,000 men face 15 times the number of Chinese troops. The Chinese, without declaring war, unexpectedly emerge from the first blinding blizzard of the year. The marines are trapped and strung out over 20 miles of tortuous mountain track. The Chinese have one mission - to destroy the American force in its entirety - in hopes of knocking America out of the Korean War. Hammel gives us the eyewitness view of the private, the non-coms, the officers and generals from both sides. We learn how the stage is set, the players perform, the script revised and then burns into useless ashes - as minor characters play unexpected pivotal roles which turn the tide of battle. Told with humor, pathos, and unblinking truth, "Chosin" is a a tribute to the Marine Corps, the American fighting spirirt, and the will to survive.

Free Fall is a picture book by David Wiesner. This book confused me the first time through, I could not make the subtle connections between the pages, which seem to interconnect with each other. Once I read it through a second time the connections were more evident and I liked it a lot more. I am not sure children would appreciate the style or detail of the pictures; it is a good book if you are wanting to open the childs eyes to a new type of art.

I re-read Bean Trees before reading this one and I liked the sequel a lot. It was a great story and kept me entertained. Not as thrilling as the first book, but well worth having on my shelf.

10/09 I re-read this and might bump it up to five stars. Lovely. ---- 01/07 i started reading this over winter break and i have like... not very much left, but it's so good that i want to make sure i devote proper reading attention to the last bit and i haven't found the chance for that yet :O and by now i've probably forgotten the first half of the book. -- Finally finished it! I loved it, basically. Now I want to re-read it all together, without a big pause in the middle. But it's really less about plot and more about her careful, precise, beautiful prose. A good book to savor.

So good... about how everything is related to everything else, and how things (usually!) happen for a reason. Middlesex follows the story of 3 generations of a Greek family who moves to the US in the 1920`s. Due to the grandparents` unusual relationship, one of their grandchildren is born as a hermaphrodite, however this goes largely unnoticed until "Cal" reaches puberty -- and so it`s the unravelling of that story... about gender identity, and families, about growing up and excepting who you are. Good story telling and interesting!
