I was intrigued by the fire theme... naturally! I read this in about a day this weekend... Story line has some authentic fire experiences, but this is really a book about relationships with your spouse, and finding God in your life. The book is written well enough to keep my interest, but it's definitely on the side of religion and relationships.

Satisfying ending, but tried a bit too hard to be titillating.

Extremely smart, incredibly true This is a book for anyone who has lost a loved one. This is a book for anyone who has survived a disaster. This is a book for optimists and pessimists and those in-between; in short, for everyone. There is so much wisdom, emotion, pathos and humor in the pages of this book that you want to take your time with it; to read a chapter and then reflect on it awhile. The narrative is so compelling, however, that you find yourself turning the pages obsessively. Even when your eyes are brimming and you can no longer see the words. Foer writes, “It’s the tragedy of loving, you can’t love anything more than something you miss.” I’m not sure if the author means this is true only for the character who says it; for all of the characters; or for people in general. I do know, though, I’ll be missing each of the characters in this novel - especially Oskar - for a long time to come.

Sentences are sometimes cringe-worthy in their structure and word choice. However...still very entertaining.

Enthralling. Couldn't put this one down. The icons of punk are disgusting, horrible people. Ron Asheton comes out my favorite, the most level-headed. I'd never been aware of the story behind the New York-U.K. punk connection, and now I can appreciate the opinion of folks who say Punk died as soon as it became popular. Everyone into independent music should read this.

A more dark and unexpected peek into another aspect of Venice - the gypsy, or Romani, population. Enjoyed seeing Brunetti push some personal boundaries in dealing with the death of the young girl. An interesting addition to the series, but not my favorite.
