I actually like this book better than O. Palmer Robertson's Christ of the Covenants. Holwerda is a bit more covenantally rigorous than Robertson and he presents a better (i.e. more clear and precise) picture of Jesus as the true Israel in his analysis of the old and new covenants. When we speak of the two covenants in scripture, we aren't talking about the old covenant versus the new covenant, rather we are talking about the covenant of works and the covenant of grace. The former is the covenant God had with man before the Fall and the latter is the covenant God has with man now. This book is about seeing how the old covenant and the new covenant are the same covenant.

i can't praise this book enough. it is a fictional account of real historical figures who are heroes of the underground revolution in the dominican republic. the story is told with such grace, even at the very violent points. alvarez's fictional account breathes life into these heroes, making them human again-- complicated and beautiful.

I have still trying to finish that book, but it goes slowly over about 3 to 4 months. I am almost done at last. It was not the best Kay Scarpetta novel. I have read another book by Patricia Cornwell that has Kay Scarpetta character in it. It is very good. I belive it was Body of Evidence. I like Kay Scapetta character. A very smart detective. When I look at the title, Preador, I thought it got to be interesting. Unfortunately I did not read the reivew before I buy it. It is very vastly vague. There is no clear understanding what they are dealing with. It is hardly that I could detect there is a Predator. I don't think that title is a good name for that book, actually. I regret to give this book 2 stars. Kinda disappointing. I will let you know how the ends goes, no spoiler, but will see if I can connect from the beginning to the end. And see if it does make any sense to the title. Update on 4/25/2007: I finally got a chance to finish this book. What a lengthy read! LOL. Again, I do give it a 2 rating. I was expecting more from the ending. I suppose it leaves to us to imagine what happen after. Sad to see no one has got out alive. :-(

People get very upset with this book and I can understand why: if you take everything they say and apply it literally you'll end up frustrated. I have found this book incredibly reassuring and have used their principles successfully with both of my children. It's not easy, but the idea that you are doing neither yourself or your child a favor by doing things like feeding them every 30 minutes or not letting them cry a little bit (for up to 15 minutes) is hard to take hold of. Take it with a grain of salt, apply it to your life and pay close attention to what they call "cues" -- if your baby is obviously hungry, feed them!
