I think this book is precious. It's so cute how the parent rabbit and child rabbit try to find ways to creatively describe their great love for each other. I hope everyone who reads this book to a little person takes the time to tell him/her how much (s)he is loved! Have fun describing how big, long, deep, wide, huge, and high your love for each other is! :) (This is what I wrote in the front of my students' "family fun" book journal.)

I just sat on our porch swing and read the last 200 pages of this book straight through. Wow. Imagine me sobbing profusely behind my sunglasses while Sofie and Lena gallavant around the front yard laughing. Again, wow. I have not cried this much about a book in years -- tears of sadness, yes, but also tears of joy. What a wonderful, wonderful book. I echo everyone else's reviews about how the characters were so amazing and real. I fell completely in love. I loved the narrative style of the book -- the narrator's digressions, the foreshadowing, the interweaving of present and future. There is just so much richness to the story, so many layers. Wow. I can't even formulate the right words to talk about it. Everyone should read this.

Hey, I've got a totally unsubstantiated thought about The Witches and Roald Dahl. I heard that Roald Dahl was anti-Semitic. Remember how the witches are bald and wear wigs? Well, that's kind of interesting given that orthodox Jewish married women shave their heads and wear wigs, right? Is that a stretch?

This book has one other review, which baffles me. I thought the book struck the right balance between describing the "academic" life surrounding a late medieval school, and the murder mystery story. It isn't a Dan Brown-type puzzle fest, though. More like Eco-light. You'll absorb more about Thomism and Aristotle than about the details of the plot, because the ideological, or rather philosophical, debates of the era are what drive on the murderer, much like "The Name of the Rose." But not as erudite, or with as fully formed characters. 3.5 stars.

This is one of the few books that no matter how many times I read it, I simply can’t get into the story. The setting is fantastic and creepy at times, but I can’t get into the characters. At times, the plot is simplistic (which can be a good thing), but I was bored to tears. I didn’t like it very much whenever I first read the book, so it’s a little strange that my feelings haven’t quite changed over time.
