I liked this book because it does a nice job of explaining the different types of poems and offering ideas on how to teach them to kids. It also has plenty of examples, which are great. I think the key to teaching any kind of poetry is to not half-ass it. Spend time really getting the kids to understand it rather than just rushing through it, and this book is perfect for creating three or four day poetry units. My only frustration was that the handouts/graphic organizers often took up more than one page. I have a limited number of copies available to me so I didn't like that some of the lessons called for 4-page handouts. The graphic organizers should have been laid out more efficiently.

This whole book seemed to revolve around how Anita is cooler than everyone else, mortal or otherwise. She's more powerful than EVERYONE for this reason or that... it seemed a little too much for me at times. However, I guess this is her series so she can be queen of everything. She's queen of the wolves and leopards, she raises and controls the zombies, she's more powerful than the vampires... even the most powerful of them all. And if she can't out-power them, she bests them by petting their face or appealing to their sense of ... ug, you get the point. Over at GoodReads, one reviewer said she gets tired of how Anita "level's up", and man, how true that is... 'Oh look, I have another cool power'... blinks, 'Oh look, here's another one'. We get the point, you are super awesome. I liked this book, I'll just say it wasn't one of my favorites. There were a few in this series that I really didn't like, then a few that I loved. This is one that I just "liked"... It kept the series going, showed how powerful she is, and introduced some great characters. I really liked the Asher possibility for future usage. And there were some characters from previous books that were given more depth here. I really liked that. My favorite thing about this book, though, is the continued humanity and humility that Anita's facing. Not the power-up thing, that's getting droll... but her getting rid of the whole prude, holier than thou, don't touch me, and you suck personality. I actually like her, again.

Oh my gosh, this book is amazing!!! It is about a 17 year old girl who lives in a futuristic world where everything is controlled by Officials. Where she works, what she does, even who she loves. Soon, she gets Matched, their form of marriage, to her best friend, Xander. But when she pops in a disc telling about her Match, another face pops up, one that she also knows, Ky (an Aberration). Soon, Ky and Cassia are uncovering unexpected things in the Society. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes the book The Giver.

SPOILERS AHOY HOY! My thoughts on Dan Chaon's story of two half brothers that find each other in dire circumstances midway through their twenties has a lot to say about the What If's of life. And his conclusion seems to say that regardless of our childhoods we become what we're intended to become - a bad mother, a kidnapper, a good bartender, a commercial artist. Putting it a different way, a good upbringing does not a good life make. Chaon also writes a lot about patterns, especially those found in families, and how each new member of a family represents hope to the generation that bore them. To Jonah, the older brother that got away from their parents was hope that he could be someone better than he is. To Troy, Loomis was the hope for something more stable, a precocious tabula rasa. For Nora, her first baby boy was the loss of her innocence and giving her boy away meant giving up hope. We all search to break or be the antonym of the worrisome patterns of our parents but we may not realize that the core issue still hasn't been addressed. Wow, this book brought out the Dr. Phil in me. I enjoyed it. I found myself applying the themes to my own family, my own patterns. I will warn that the book starts out very depressing. I almost put it down because depressing wasn't what I needed, but I stuck with it and was glad I did.

Wonderful and powerful. Every girl and woman should read this, I just wish I could have read it when I was younger.

This was a romantic read with a bit of Fae mixed in and was entertaining. However, I was never able to become completely immersed in the story. There was something that rang a bit run of the mill romance for me.

Good overview on classical and modern legislation regarding personal status codes. Gives a good comparison on the changes between past and present.
