If you suspect that reading a book about economics would be boring, this book is for you. I was glued. This book is a big eyeopener and a wonderfully refreshing take on econ issues, but take the author's findings with a grain of salt. For some of his assertions there's already other studies whose findings are to the contrary. Never accept one study's findings as "fact".

oh my goodness--hello homemade ice cream:-) the sweet cream base is my best friend. my sister-in-law got me this book for christmas after my parents gave me the kitchen aid mixer with the ice cream maker attachment. i've been an ice cream extrordinaire ever since. you'll never need to go out again after you've made these recipes at home.

Wanted a book on meditation to help me through some troublesome spots. Guyczuk did too, and he came up with three recommendations. This was my least favorite of the three, but it might be because of the layout and presentation. There's good info in there, if you're more patient than I am, and more comfortable with some of the current American jargon and approaches to learning a certain type of skills. While I like the idea of 8 minute meditation, it somehow seems too distilled down for me, too formulaic.

I started to listen to this once and it didn't take but came back to it and it did. Neal Stephenson is very good at imagining future world's. Will something like the "primer" ever exist? Imagine Wikipedia, fully vetted, with personality and interactivity. It could happen.

All the negative reviews seem to want this book to be something other than it is: if you know a lot about baseball or New York politics, this isn't for you, as it is aimed at a casual interest reader who isn't an expert in either; if you want one, cohesive narrative, this isn't for you, as it jumps between mayoral elections, baseball, an Rupert Murdoch. I'm loving it because a)I don't know much about any of those three things, but I'm interested in all of them and b)I'm not interested in any one of them enough to want a 400 page book on them alone, so the jumping about keeps me engaged. I think this book pulls off the jugling act just right.
