I would have to agree with Fitzgerald himself when he said that his short stories were far from his best work. While the stories in Flappers and Philosophers are stylistically Fitzgerald, his themes are sophomoric and underdeveloped. Nothing in this collection starts at the depth, gravity, or beauty of Fitzgerald's novels. To their credit, most of the stories made for entertaining reads and presented a side to Fitzgerald's writing not present in his other works. Many of his stories, particularly The Cut-Glass Bowl and Head and Shoulders, could almost be categorized as naturalist literature. I would recommend this to people who have read and enjoyed F. Scott's other writings, but the works are no Great Gatsby.

Another quick and easy Henry and Mudge book. Good for my 3.5 year old. He likes them but I can't imagine their going to be any kid's favorite. I would give them 3.5 stars if I could.
