Just started so I'm only a few pages in. So far I'm having a bit of trouble getting into it as the wording is a bit strange. Might have something to do with the fact that I'm so used to reading textbooks that I'm having trouble getting my brain to switch over to fiction style writing.

3.5 stars. The book itself was great, readable and with some great information about small, regional candymakers. And it made me really want a Valomilk. Yummy! I deduct a 1/2 star because of the few random political rants. It's a book about candy, for crying out loud!

It is nice to see the comfort and support they give to each other through the problems. It would be nice if everyone had that kind of suppport through their problems. Growing up as the child of Holocaust survivors cannot be easy, as anyone can imagine, but Spiegelman convincingly and unromantically depicts the familial dysfunction. He clearly understands the nature of post-traumatic stress disorder. Unspeakably sad.
