Okay, it is a little bit silly how I came across this book; I was listening to some adults speaking about how it is not suitable for high school students. I was about 10 years old at the time, so I immediately knew I MUST read the book if it was inappropriate for someone of my age. I spent a week looking through the basement in a box of my sister's old school books until I found it. It was ripped up and was the version with the creepy Ralph on the front, making it seem even more forbidden. Yet another book I must revisit!!

Well, I guess come next year I'll be reading this edition of my favorite book EVER for the first time. I'll do a full review then.

Right after finishing the book, I wanted to give it a 3 star rating because I felt as though a light had been abruptly switched off, and I was left in the darkness, with more questions than answers. I just wanted to continue reading and have a sense of closure. However, when I had a chance to reflect on the author's writing style, the unforgettable imagery that he (and the translator) brought to my mind, and my own emotions as I was drawn into the protagonist's life - I have to, in all fairness, give the book at least a 4 star rating, which it richly deserves. The prose is sparse, yet potent.. you have to re-read many sentences just to grasp the hidden meaning behind the text. There is a poignant beauty in the wilderness of Norway, which is described so gracefully in this book. The protagonist (Trond) is living the rest of his years as an elderly widower in a small village in Norway, in a rustic cabin not unlike the one he shared with his father during one fateful summer in 1948, when he was a teenager. We are given glimpses of his memories of that time, and his almost dream-like current state where he copes with the death of his wife. The pace of the book is surprisingly quick and you learn (as does Trond), that his father's past involved more than just leading a bucolic existence in a remote part of Norway. So an extremely interesting plot line develops, but you are left with this very unsatisfied feeling at the end of the book. Perhaps that was the author's goal - to make the reader mull over the tragedy of lost youth, coming to terms with unfulfilled promises made by a parent, and the experience of recalling long forgotten memories as a result of the self imposed isolation that is almost inevitable after losing loved ones. "Out Stealing Horses" is a combination of meditative prose and quietly powerful narrative that is a refreshing reading experience. I think it might be even more enjoyable to the reader if they keep in mind that every word is to be relished, instead of waiting for the proverbial "beginning", "middle" and the "end".

I really enjoyed the first book of this series. Based in mythology it was very intriguing to see it mixed together with modern day. I liked this book most because although a romance type book, it was light and entertaining. A nice quick entertaining read.

This is a great portrait of the English court during the reign of Henry VIII. It also chronicles the life and experiences of the Boleyn family through the eyes of the less famous Boleyn sister, Mary. I loved this book and am anxiously awaiting the film version - hope they don't screw it up too badly...

Another great book by one of my favorite children's/YA authors. I got this as an advanced reader copy and read it quickly on my Nook. I think the reviews will be great.

Until I Die, the second book in Revenants series, definitely didn't disappoint and was a really great followup to Die For Me!! One of my favorite parts of this book really was the plot. Amy Plum kept the book at a really great pace..not too slow but not too fast which I really liked. Of course, Until I Die kept me on the edge of my seat and there were many moments that I did not see coming..which really made this book stand out to me (in a good way!!). What I really loved about Until I Die in particular was that while it has actions scenes and goes more into the mythology of the revenants, it doesn't stray away from the romance between Kate and Vincent, which really is the heart of the series. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship progress throughout the book and I can't wait to see what's in store for them next. It was also really interesting to see Kate grow as a character. As a reader, we can really see her growth from the first book in the series to this book. She really has become a more independent girl and has come out of her shell. The setting of this book (which is France) captivated me from the first day that I started this series. I love reading about the different sites in Paris and France, and also learning some French history as well. Overall, Until I Die, is a really great follow up to an awesome series!! This book definitely would disappoint to fans of the series, and if you haven't checked this series out you really should do so!!

This book could have been an informed critique of Mass Media, and it comes close---I think a lot of the attacks levied by Curtis are valid. Unfortunately, his claims are only backed up by anecdotes, and overall he seems more concerned with writing a funny book than an informative one. The only reason I was excited to read this book was because I saw the first chapter posted online when it was published and it was interesting---little did I know that the rest of the book would consist of Curtis harping on the few, simple points he made in that first chapter.

I am truely a fan of Roald Dahl. Although I read other books of his when I was a kid, I never read this one. So I was excited to read it this year. The story is fun and entertaining all the way through. You cannot help but to love the hero of the story, Charlie, as we all know. I also enjoyed comparing this to the 2 movies that have been made based on the book. Surprisingly both were close to the book. This is a must own! Can't wait to read this to my daughter.
