Soo thick, yet again, it is 50 years of African history. Talk about putting dozens of independent countries on one book. They can't all possibly be in here, but if you can handle loads of histories (done by a journalist), pick up this read. It's not only a mental workout, but a free weight as well.

I love the way Sharon Kay Penman weaves history and fiction, filling in the gaps and highlighting the most interesting anecdotes, making names from famous family trees come alive in the process. This book covers a period of history that must have been very trying to live through for the common people, when those in search of power struggled and fought!

Funny in the voice of my generation. Make me want to run? Perhaps.

continues the story started in The Last Kingdom - Uhtred's quest to restore his birthright, and King Alfred's quest to build England. Very similar in a lot of ways - the book builds up to a final climactic set-piece battle. But again, it's a good, fun, historical read, about a period of history that's often overlooked.

I must have read this book a long time ago and forgot it, because when I started reading it, I began remembering and anticipating fragments and events in the book. I read it shortly after Year of Fog, and in all honesty found Year of Fog more believable and poignant. Maybe because in latter, I related more to the main character--a single female, not financially secure, with very little by way of family. The people and events in Deep End of the Ocean did not resonate with me in the same way. The one exception to this was Vincent, AKA Reese. His character was well-developed and compelling, and had a touch of pathos that really tugged at my heart. Other than that, a kinda "meh" book. Ending: Bittersweet, somewhat ambiguous

This book was amazing!! I had to keep reminding myself it was a memoir and not a bizarre novel!

An incredibly good job of bringing this series to a close. And the usual good job by Rowling of drawing connections from and to the entire series.

I see many readers didn't manage to bear with the overstretched plot to the very end. A week ago I was about to join their ranks, but hen I decided that I want to see the Inheritance cycle through for myself and I don't regret that decision. Brisingr indeed has many flaws. All those unnecessary descriptions, small events of no significance to the bigger picture, etc. To this I might also add my personal dislike towards the main character, who hasn't become an ounce wiser after all this time (that has nothing to do with the book's flaws, though). The things I described, however, are part of Paolini's style. Unnecessary events, descriptions, flashbacks we have seen in both Eragon and Eldest. I won't argue that in Brisingr things are more forceful and deliberate, but in case you've read and liked the previous book, you should give this one a chance. It may be tiresome at times but overall you won't regret it. Paolini has created a complex plot with many things still to be reveald, many questions needing an answer. As for those who claim to have read Brisingr and to not be interested in what happens next, I cannot help, but wonder have they read carefully enough? I can't wait for the last part. I have no idea how long the book will be, but I will bear with it. I just hope that the publishers will not decide that they want to earn more money (it's them I blame for this stretching of the cycle, not Paolini)through another delay of some sort.
