Fun read, although hero appears to have genetic predisposition to idiocy.

It was interesting. I thought it was a pretty brave book of her to write because honestly, it makes her look CRAZY. (all the mixed messages she's giving) It made for a interesting read (kind of like rubbernecking), but I imagine if it was me, I would never want people in real life to know these things. But she doesn't seem aware of that. I don't know. Kind of weird. But interesting.

I miss Spalding Gray and his wasp version of Woody Allen type neurosis. The book is great, but if you can find the audio version with Spalding reading, it's even better. The urgent, crazy energy of this man's performance is absolutely marvelous.

Fascinating true-crime saga of larceny within the rare book business, in a case where the author herself nearly gets drawn into the action. This is the story of a book thief (John Gilkey) who specializes in preying on dealers in first editions and historical documents. Gilkey gave the author nearly unlimited access, resulting in a unique picture of this particular sociopath collector's obsessive mindset and actions. After the book is over, both the author and the reader are still left wanting for a solid resolution - but that is, in itself, true to Gilkey's life. As the author says, "The story never ends."

I thought this book was more than the usual mindless read for entertainment, not that I mind those, because I don't. It's just... refreshing to read outside my usual interests. This book had some really beautiful, eye opening philosophical moments. The prose were written in such a way, that they sent a POW to my brain that said, "wake up to reality, see underneath the surface of people and life." I thought anyone could see themselves in Terra or Jacob, just replace the port-wine stain for any perceived flaw. This book, felt like I was reading my own life and journey.

This was the first Pendergast novel I came across. I read it because it was set in Kansas, and it got me hooked. Haven't really cared for the recent novels in the series though.

If I wanted to reread Eye Of the World, I would have done so.
