It's been awhile since the last historical novel in the Elm Creek Quilters books. It seemed like every character from the last one was included in the first chapter of The Union Quilters, and it was overwhelming. It was hard to remember who was who. It sent a weird tone for me and I just never fell in love with the book. After such a rushed start, the book drug on it many places and just wasn't as good as the other historical novels in the series.

This was a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. Darcy undergoes a great transformation after his initial proposal is rejected by Elizabeth. It was fun to watch him changed into the man that eventually wins Elizabeth's heart. I don't want to give away much about the story as I think it was the best book in the trilogy and should be best experienced by reading it yourself.

Hard to decide between "liked it" and "really liked it", but I'll stick with the former as it did interest me, but still took me about three weeks. I learned a lot about the chinese history and culture, which was great because I love when a book is both satisfying intellectually and entertaining.

When you have an author write a series of books that give advice, it is almost unavoidable to hear lines approximating the statement, "As I discussed more thoroughly in my book X regarding Y, ...." We're already reading your book. If we're not impressed enough by it to go and read it after we've finished reading all of your profound, knowledgeable advice on said topic, your pathetic attempts to plug your other book only serve to irritate. Buckingham has put out at least 4 business books I'm aware of, and how often does he do this? Only as needed. His books are not repetitive, they cover summarily different subject matter, and a reference to his other titles is done sparingly and no more than he references other books and authors. I have to commend the guy on that, because I've already extolled his virtues in my other reviews of his books, so I thought he deserved that one. I didn't get this for myself, and I'm not a manager, but I still learned quite a bit. Buckingham knows how to take a topic that has the potential for gross ennui and actually makes it interesting, so I commend him yet again. Don't read Zig Zigglar. He's just as much of a hack as the businessmen that read his books. And if you're politically correct and noticed I said businessmen and not women, it's because I'd hope women would have enough sense not waste their money on the Antony Robins of sales techniques and cold-calling. If you want a good business book, Buckingham, Ram Charan, Wayne Dyer, John Maxwell - these are your guys.

I've been looking forward to reading this for a long time and I just finished it. To be honest, I was a little bit disappointed. I think it was the seemingly endless sections in the middle, where he's detailing the differences between the different communist and socialist groups, and explaining why the communist accounts of the street fighting in Barcelona were a distortion of the truth, etc. The narrative of his own experiences are much more vivid and interesting, and probably much more important in the long run. I wish he had just focused on it. The section in which he describes getting shot is amazing.

Redundent. Yet, I am currently re-reading to see if I just hated it the first time around. So far (15 pages) it's okay.

Sandpiper Hollow Ragsdale loves feeling needed by guys. She almost doesn't mind the fact that she's lost her best friends, and that she has a reputation at school for being a slut. This all changes, however, when former "boyfriend" Derek threatens Sandpiper and her younger sister. Fortunately, Sandpiper (or Piper, as she chooses to be called) finds an ally in a young man she knows only as "the Walker." Both are estranged from their social circles, for different reasons, and find a bond through their differences from society. Through their friendship, Piper ends up confessing why Derek and his friends are after her, and Walker comes to her rescue when she needs him the most. In addition to the plot twists surrounding Piper and Walker, Piper's mother is getting remarried and the stress affects the entire family. Piper's father, still a close friend of the family, is unable to communicate with his daughter like he used to, and Piper feels that this is because he is such a womanizer, and because he cannot come to terms with her recent transition into womanhood. Piper tells her story in narrative format, and at the end of every chapter is one of her poems, sometimes inspired by famous poets, and always reflective of what is going on in her life and how this makes her feel.

it was pretty good. sure, it was another one of those novels of a teenage girl who has a bf but doesn't realize what she has in front of her, bla bla bla.. BUT it was actually a fun read. I enjoyed it. also, I loved the idea of the whole wall of cork! I also thought at first he hacker was her lil bro. I mean, it was so obvious. but then, *spoiler* I was surprised to see that it was her bff! and dell! haha. overall, I reccomend it :)
