This book was a re-read for me and I have to say that I have no idea why I loved it so much the first time around. This time I'm finding it clunky and dull. The characters are paper-doll thin and cliche and it was just not that good. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm going to regret paying out for a bunch of her other books.

A quick read and very introspective. I probably would have given this more stars had I been in a more contemplative place in my life. There were some pretty heavy concepts that I could tell would have been insightfully analogous to life, but I'm just not in a deep mood. This is one I'll have to go back and read when I'm struggling with what's important in life.

I enjoy the celebration that the self-made man is partly a myth. The part of me that loves schadenfreude probably would have preferred more cases of showing how people aren't nearly as self-made as they think. My review will be submerged into a morass of thousands of others but still, enjoyable. If you want to cripple someone's self expectation of greatness and unweave the myth of the super-man, give them this book.

It took me so long to read this book. I feel like a better citizen for having taken the time. It is clear why a Supreme Court Appointment is so critical to the parties in power. All the Justices are well qualified but their ideology so polarized it is often down to the one moderate judge on which a monumental decision rests. That is extraordinary to me how much power this court holds and how quickly the balance sways with each appointment. Our court today is changing our legal landscape in ways we should carefully consider as a country. Since the retirements of O'Connor and the death of Rehnquist, the court is even more polarized and tips ever so slightly more to the right. This was a very good read for many reasons. The court is every bit as human as all other branches of government full of egos and quirks.
