Heavy on info, but an interesting read on recent archaeological evidence of what the Americas were like before Columbus. Massive populations and densely settled cities? Advanced agricultural technology? But they didn't even have the wheel!

I received this book in a first reads giveaway. I feel quite bad having to review the book this way. I'm only on page 8, and I always try to read as much as possible before reviewing, even if i personally dislike the book. That being said, every page thus far has been a struggle. The sentences do not flow. I've had to go back to the beginning of a few paragraphs in complete bafflement. The prose is wordy and overly descriptive, with big words that feel like they were pulled from a thesaurus. In short, the book as it is right now is completely unreadable. It could use a careful revision. I'm done reading for now. I'll be sure to come back to this review if I try again.

I read this book for my Interpreting Apocalyptic Literature class in college, and it gave me chills. Atwood is a true master. One of the best dystopian novels ever written.

If ever forced under pain of death to choose a favorite novel, I will probably choose this. This story grabs hold of me every time- it has complex and flawed characters, believable relationships and that twinge of fantasy/escapism the characters and readers need in life.
