Such a classic story. You can forever see what other works refer to P&P.

I love Stephen White. But I was a little disappointed in Dead Time. It was good, don't get me wrong, and it had some twists and turns, but it didn't seem to flow as well as some of his previous Alan Gregory novels. I don't particularly like the character of Meredith, and a great deal of this book deals with her, plus I'm not fond of the direction he's taking with Alan and Lauren. So, it was good, but not one of my favorites.

This trilogy is just great. I've read all three books several times now, and am in the middle of another read-through. Compelling characters, government-conspiracy element, political themes of eugenics/disability, thrilling action with adept pacing. And written when the author was 17, no less. A fast, enjoyable read. On a virgo note, the number of typos in the paperback editions of all three books in the trilogy drives me NUTS--there are easily over ten in each book-- Get a competent proof-reader, Simon Pulse! haha.

Historical fiction isn't usually my preferred choice, and I readily admit that I picked up this book tempted by its beautiful cover design and the massive half-price sticker that adorned it. But then I saw it was by David Mitchell, and I had to have it. And I was not disappointed. In fact, my expectations were exceeded as he skillfully weaves together numerous characters and rich period detail through his beautiful writing to form a dense tapestry across which the story of Jacob and Dejima plays out. Mitchell's superb storytelling brings in threads of impossible romance, kidnap and imprisonment, secret cults with political connections, seafaring action and military entanglements, leaving an evocative and satisfying read.

I absolutely hate this book. The author completely misunderstands the ideals of the modern novel, conveying a multiplicitous theme in an extremely overt, crude, and condescending manner. The reader is repeatedly bludgeoned with nuance, allowing him/her to acquire intellectual pretensions without any mental work. It'd be great for a book club...

Even more baffling than usual for Wolfe. The Cthulhu meets All About Eve setting was certainly unique. There seemed to be some sort of time travel going on. In the end, though, I have no idea what Wolfe was on about.

The stories and history behind the women who married into the Kennedy family are so interesting, I ripped through this book and cried for each of their tragedies.

GENRE: YA Fantasy THEME: Fairies, Dragons, Mythical Creatures RECEIVED: Review Request by Author BLOG: http://seeingnight.blogspot.com/ REVIEW: Fairy Bad Day by Amanda Ashby is just a bundle of fun, action packed fantasy that I enjoyed till the last page. I was either laughing, or wishing I owned a sword while I followed Emma, the lead character through her very entertaining adventure. Emma is a tough young girl whose dream is to follow in her mother’s footsteps as a Dragon Slayer. But when each student in their academy is placed with their chosen slay, Emma is shocked when she is chosen as a Fairy Slayer. The job is given to Curtis Green, who is now getting a very hatful glare from Emma, who sadly also thinks he’s cute. Emma discovers not only is slaying fairies hard but that there is a Giant Fairy that is more powerful than any creature she has ever hear of. She must find a way to stop this Giant Fairy from harming her friends and opening a gate that will release all the creatures that want to get out. I thought this story was a blast, who wouldn’t want to go to an academy and learn that all the mythical creatures out there really existed? Emma was someone who is very determined, even if she has to risk getting kicked out of the academy. Her loyalty to her mother’s legacy is key for her to learn how to fight this unknown fairy that is impossible to defeat. Emma is not alone in her crusade to stop the creature; her friends Tyler and Loni have her back in some humorous moments and a little gambling. As well as her archrival Curtis, who isn’t has bad as Emma think’s he is. The four of them have to get through the challenges of school, fighting, annoying little fairies and detention all the while trying to stay alive against the Giant Fairy. Overall Fairy Bad Day was an adventurous, fun filled read with great characters and an entertaining plot that any fantasy lover will enjoy. I recommend this to all young adult and adult readers. RECOMMENDATION: This is a young adult fantasy novel that carries a light tone for many ages. Fans of Jennifer Estep’s Mythos Academy and Rachel Meads Vampire Academy with have a blast with Fairy Bad Day.

"Clean Slate" was a harder read than normal for me. I kept putting it down and then picking it back up. This is due to the relationships between Chris, John and Andrei. "First Blood" second book in the series affected me the same way. For some reason once Nikita was fully introduced as a major character I was ok and ended up loving it. Maybe it was the menage aspect that I didn't like and once Chris realized he fell for Nikita I relaxed. It then became a great spy novel with an M/M bent.
