At first, it had taken me a little while to finally get into this book. In the beginning I did not like it because it seemed to be just another boring book. Yet after the first one-hundred pages, more action began to take place and my interest level raised from not interested to very interested. This book was very good. Often confusing at certain parts, but a good read. After reading this book all I could think was how glad I was to not live in a society like Winston Smith's (the main character). The lifestyle was full of confusion and hatred. No one knew the truth, yet no one bothered asking what was behind closed doors. Everyone was exposed through the telescreens. Anything that seemed to not fit the norm, it was suspected that people were up to know good and for most of the time, they were destroyed. Vaporized. It would have taken a strong, courageous person to want to turn against the Big Brother and stand up for what they believed was fact. Not one person would who stood against Big Brother stayed alive. Winston Smith (the main character) was courageous and no matter what did not let people influence him. He was an individual who did not follow the rules at all. Winston Smith faced many struggles in that society. He had two important people in his life he deeply cared for, O'Brein and a woman named Julia. One of them ends up turning on him and takes the book for a whirl wind. That is what made it interesting.

** spoiler alert ** UGHHHH! why?! I love Dorian! I hate how Eugenie cheated on Dorian! yeah, he didnt tell her the whole story on the iron crown, but she had to go sleep with Kiyo! i hated Kiyo from the beginning! he thinks he's in charge of everything. It was annoying how he kept telling Eugenie that she should just run away from her kingdom and her postion as queen. Eugenie has the power and mind to be a queen. She's a B.A and has ton of GIRL POWER. i loved Eugenie through the first two books, but the third book just broke my heart! i hate how she ended up pregnant at the end. i truly think she is crazy! Yes, Dorian does crave power, but he would never put Eugenie under his crave of power. I was really dissapointed from this book. i feel like it would be much better if Eugenie wasnt pregnant. It puts her in a weak position. i no this will sound bad, but i dont want Eugenie to have her babies. i out alot of emotion in this book, because it was intriging, but the ending was just dissapointing. i don't think Darien and Eugenie will ever have the relationship they had before. i just want Kiyo out of the picture. overall it's just dissapointing.

While Lucivar & Marion's story is my favorite in this book, the final story of what happens after Queen of the Darkness is why I read this book. I need to know that Daemon is happy.... then I'm content to put the stories away until I'm ready to start at the beginning (Daughter of the Blood) again.

I'm giving this one five stars, not because all the stories were perfect, but because taken as a whole, the collection presents a fabulous variety. Some of the stories are science fiction (like "Cash Crop"), some are contemporary with odd little twists (like "Just Like the Ones We Used to Know"), some have time travel (like "Fire Watch," which has the added bonus of a Doomsday Book reference), and one is so downright creepy I'd like to forget it. Some short story collections feel awkward, not because the stories themselves aren't good, but because they weren't really written to be read all at once. With Willis' stories, the book is organized by loose themes, rather than chronology, and while the style is all distinctly Willis, they never feel repetitive. The only thing missing was a note about when all the stories were originally published. This book is massive and a bit of a chore to lug around, but it's just so well-rounded. I don't always take easily to short stories (which is odd because I spent a whole class writing them in college) but this one more than won me over, and I'll definitely reread it.

I loathe the epistolary novel, but for some reason this book totally got me in the old right there. Though I have to admit in order to achieve the "quiet little prose" effect it was like he beat the words until they stopped whimpering.

The drama is what happens when their cheese is taken away and how each character makes his choice how to deal with it.
